Magnificence of innocence. Review on Main Aisa Hi Hoon

House-full board of ‘Kya Kool hain Hum’ was indeed a blessing in disguise that prompted me to try this nice alternative. This movie reminded me of those lines of Bawarchi said by Rajesh Khanna – It is so simple to remain happy, but so difficult to remain simple.

In this era of sleazy movies, Harry Baweja and family has touched upon a very sensitive note with Main..Aisa hee hoon (M2H2). This movie revolves around NEEL (Ajay Devgan), who is mentally challenged and her 7 year daughter Gungun. Movie goes into flashback… showing how MAYA(Esha Deol) came into life of NEEL and why she left them alone. It shows a sweet family of Neel, Ritu Di and sweet friends of Neel.. equally superb. Gungun is a very mature and intelligent girl, who takes care of herself and her father. She respects NEEL and hates when world calls him abnormal. She doesn’t want to grow up, as it’ll leave Neel alone.

Movie takes a turn with entry of Anupam Kher as a Villian. He is father of Maya and comes with intention to bring back Gungun. Neel now needs an expert lawyer as he can’t afford to lose his child. PERFORMANCE

Ajay Devgan: From Aisa..hee hoon main of ‘Pyaar to hona hee thaa’ to Neel of ‘ Main Aisa Hi Hoon ’ … there is a vast difference of maturity and vividness in role. Depiction of a mentally retarded person for an action hero is really a tough nut to crack.. Ajay has done full justice to role. Perhaps, his best role I have ever seen. Hritik Roshan should take inspiration from him, coz what he did in Koi..Mil Gaya was not even 10% of this. By chance…if any of you liked irritating role of Hritik in KMG, I am sure you’ll fall in love with Neel.

Isha Deol : Role of Isha Deol will remind you of Zeenat Aman of Hare Rame Hare Krishna( although Zeenat was far better in terms of acting as well as glamour). Spoiled girl of a rich family drowned in drugs craving for love and affection of someone. After Dhoom, at least now Esha looks feminine and attractive although in acting she still has a long way to go. Role demanded her to cry bucketful of tears, which she did pretty well. She is a slow learner, but at least she’s trying to improve.

Sushmita Sen : Sush was back in limelight after ‘Main hoon Naa..’ and this time not to look back. This role must have been a cake walk for her as it required a gal with lots of confidence, attitude and that’s what Sush is like. With series of flop of Ash… I guess, its golden opportunity for Sush. Noticed something, both in Samay and M2H2.. she’s done role of single parent.. Something, which she can enact naturally. Guess, she’s over cautious with her roles. Doesn’t want to take any chances.

Nowadays, child artists are out performing even senior members…be it black or M2H2. Baby Rucha has displayed very good acting.

MYOO-SIC

Himesh Reshamiya is in lime light nowadays with success after success. His music has got nice variations. Although, this movie will not be remembered for its Music. Deewanapan Deewangi is nice to hear to and picturised very well on Esha and Ajay. Walk in to my life.. is very sweeet and exhibits sheer innocence of Ajay.

Papa mere Papa is average.. but gets too melodramatic 2nd time. Raat hai soyi soyi, Dil mere todo na, teri galiyon sey disappoints and could have been omitted to reduce length of movie.

POST-MORTEM

I have read many places that it is inspired from ‘I am Sam’, what I can say is ‘I am not sure’ coz haven’t heard name of that movie, leave aside watching it. Perhaps, some of you can throw some light. First half of movie is well shot, gripping and crisp. 2 friends of Ajay also sprinkle nice humor in first half. Scenes of Esha and Ajay were picturised very beautifully. There is nothing great in plot, it is somewhat similar to 'Chachi 420' and 'Akele hum Akele tum'. Just that, in this fight is betwn Father and Father-in-law... no husband - wife misunderstanding stuff.

Till interval, one is sure that it’s going to be a big hit. Post interval, movie starts losing its charm. One really wonders that, is it the same director who directed first half. So many songs and that too repeated ones, makes movie drag. Movie starts losing its focus in courtroom drama. Instead of going into detailed history of class teacher and Ritu di, it should have been more focused on Ajay’s point. Had movie been crisp in 2nd half, for sure it would have turned to be big hit.

Many points were left unexplained … reason why Maya leaves her daughter behind is highly stupid. Was she a drug addict or taking shelter of drugs to kill the pain of loneliness? In last scene, Was Sushmita Sen’s action just a pity on Ajay or some kind of self sacrifice or Director wanted to mix some feelings of love as well (which were not evident at all). Sushmita’s plea in court .. “kanoon kea ankh par patti bandhi hai… saboot ko nahin, dil ki bhavnaon se dekho” gets too bollywoodish.

In all it is a nice flick and one should watch it for acting of Ajay Devgan. My guess is ..only Mangal Pandey could be a tough competitor for Ajay Devgan, otherwise Filmfare award shud go to Devgun (If they aren’t partial for SRK for a change). It is a neat movie which can be watched with your family.
