I have a 2009 Scorpio. Love it. It is powerful, strong… engine is remarkably strong. I can carry goods upto 3000 kg effortlessly. Yes, 3000 kg, not 300. I have traversed with 2500 to 3000 kg several times. The body is greeeaaat. As an Indian car, it is very good. The good thing is that it is the best Indian car on the road. The problem is that if this is the best Indian vehicle on the road, then it falls miserably short of international standards.

Problem is that minus the engine and the very solid body, everything else is shoddy. The paint on the bumper on the front and the back is on solid iron, which means, you cannot be very generous with wax. The paint will come off and the black under it will show. The headlights are not focused. They are there, but they illuminate the sky. Well, I am not driving towards the sky. They do blind the car coming from the opposite direction. I had it corrected. The company logo is made on material that rusted within 9 months. And yes, the excuse given was that we do not wipe car after washing. Ya right!!!

Then the interior is not as good as what it could have been. Even the glass used in the wind screen is of poor quality. One small hit and it would break into smithers. It would not even hold on it’s place. A clear filming was the only option. It seems that the car was put together by materials sourced from the lowest bidder. The back of the car has a creaking sound that just does not go away and it is annoying while driving.  Maybe, it is because the way the jack is thrown in. Yes, thrown in. If you were to break hard enough, it could slide from the back to under the driver seat. It is not tied down, nor does it have a designated slot.

The air-conditioning is super. No complaints. Yes, would have preferred if the ducting could have kept the air from outside percolating in. I must add that the engine is so powerful that while it chills the car in a jiffy, the heater takes forever to kick in.

I would not have minded paying an additional for a top class product – especially when I could proudly flaunt a Made in India** product compared to the Fords and Toyotas.

Would have liked it to have some collapsible ladder or stool system so that older people could climb into it effortlessly.

Over all, it is a good car, but I would not buy it again, unless Mahindra ups it’s standards. But yes, I would not use Sri Durga in Delhi for servicing.

Reviewing again after completing 18 months of purchase:

I reduced the load I was carrying in the car.  now, keep it less than 600 kg (including passengers).  Car still very powerful.  seats still comfortable.  Air conditioning is still good.  have done more than 60, 000 km on the Scorpio.  Is it a world class product - no.  But, at the price, I am not complaining.

Car travels over Indian roads fairly easily.  Shockers, not top class, but then, I did carry weight on them.  But, getting a lot of things changed did not help.

But I still stand by what I had said earlier - looks like the Scorpio was put together sourcing materials from the cheapest sources possible

Today is September 13th, 2012.  It has been almost 3.5 years with the scorpio.  Well, each passing month, my disappointment increases manifolds.  The AC does not work as good.  The car has so many issues.  The body is rusting from so many places.  I have driven is more than 100, 000 km, and am always worried about taking it out of town.  Don't know what breakdown will happen and where.

All in all, I am washing my hands of all Mahindra Products.  My hope for the pride in an excellent Indian product has been shattered.  I am going to selling the scorpio soon, and will stick with a Japanese product.

I would advise everyone, that is better to buy a costlier Japanese product that will last you for 10 years, rather than the scorpio that will start eating money at the end of the 3rd year.
