Scorpio CRDE-The King of the road. Review on Mahindra Scorpio CRDE

I am from Chennai ( Tambaram ) and this was my personal opinion about my test drive with Mahindra Scorpio CRDE the ultimate SUV.

I went for a test drive of the new SCORPIO CRDE (Common Rail Diesel Engine)-This was a refinement of the old Scorpio made to meet out the new euro 3 Norms in reducing Pollution from Diesel Cars.

The time the car was with me:

I drove for 2 hours in a mixed mode of city traffic + Highway to test the top speed.Here I will list out the features step by step.

POWER:

2600 CC CRDE Engine-115 BHP-28.3 TORQUE

The car was fantastic to drive and I would call this as a powerhorse.The AC was at full blast and the car went effortlessly and this was the speeds I obtained with the Aircon on at full blast.I had to look at the speedometer to know that I was in 100 often.Throughout my way the autos and other vehicles jus gave me way and I felt thrilled.Even the cops stare at u to check whether u r some politician.

5 th : went upto 145

Models Available :

Scorpio : Normal Version(Fully painted with the same colour and power steering will be stripped out)

Scorpio DX : All features in Slx except voice based system,Power windows,Captain seats(which provides armrest to the front and back passengers)

Scorpio SLX : Dual colored body,Voice based system(It will warn u wear seat belts,if doors are unlocked and so many voice prerecorded options),Power Steering,Power Windows,Fog lamps,Demister,Captain Seats(Excellent because the driver can rest his arm after the gear changes which reduces the shoulder pain normally on long drives),

16 inch massive extra large wheels,New suspension under CRDE model

The Mahindra representative told me that unlike other cars where oil is used as a lubrication, here in scorpio Diesel is used for lubrication along with oil and he told me that I should always maintain 10 litres in my tank.Further he told me that the new scorpio was designed keeping in mind of all the previous problems and it was naturally problem free.

It has a new fuel filter which only needs a replacement after 40000 km.

I asked him about the brake failures occurring in scorpio in the previous models and I came to know that it was true and the sensors failed attimes and now that a new sensor with backup had been used in new CRDE.The type of bakes used were LSPV.

The main pluspoint was the height at which the passengers sit inside the car.We can see the rooftops of all the other cars and the road visibility is fantastic.Power steering was very easy to use and the car responded in ease and I never had any feeling of driving this big sized car.

CRDE was really smooth and still I would say that the noise has come down to a level not still in comparison with a pertrol engine.The gearsift was also easy to make.

INTERIORS :

The interiors were matched in accordance with the body colour and the slx version I drove had a wood finish control panel.The aircon was very good with both options of heating as well as cooling in the front and back.

Mileage:

The mileage was the biggest thing about this car.The car will return 10+ irrespective of how u drive.But the dealer promised 13 + on highway and more if we drive carefully.

Suspension was very good because of the broad tyres and the massive 2 ton + car along with new suspension.The kenwood music system was a crap and certain it needs replacement with a mp3 system.

Mahindra is giving out a 20000 km complete warranty and commits that any mechanic could repair the car at any roadside shop.

The surprising thing about scorpio is it is classified as a omnibus by RTO and not as a car.

The last thing is people stare at this car at any point anywhere and I noticed this carefully during my two hour experience.The looks are fantastic along with the good power makes this car most preferable to buy.The only bottleneck is the price which comes at around 9 lakhs for tht top end slx version along with Insurance,roadtax and registration.

Kudos to mahindra for coming out with such a nice product and I would suggest mahindra to throw their marketing team out and hire fresh people to make the sales boom.

Nothin else will do from airplane is too old ad and this new CRDE needs a new ad to bring out the cars real strength.

I just gave a phone call to INDIA GARAGE in chennai and one Mr Ramesh came to my place the next day along with an slx version and explained to me in detail.It looked as if he would let me test drive any number of hours without hesitation and was very kind in explaining to me about the car.
