The Gusto is powered by a 109.6cc, air-cooled, four-stroke, single-cylinder petrol motor which churns out 8 BHP of power @ 7, 500 RPM and 9 Nm of torque @ 5, 500 RPM. Engine is mated to a CVT transmission. The Gusto’s power unit is an all-new, all-aluminum M-TEC block built grounds up by Mahindra. The engine features a stronger cranKSHA139ft and bearings, high inertia magneto, high energy HT coil and series regulator to deliver better power and fuel efficiency. With an ARAI approved mileage of 63 kmpl, practicality is taken care of as well, however, the real world figure will be a little lower than that. Fuel tank capacity is 6 liters. Twist the throttle and she accele_45rates without any fuss. The CVT gearbox is good and the performance is according to the basic standards. It’s a silent engine with a decent sounding exhaust. It has a good mid-range punch and throughout our ride, we never encountered unnecessary vibrations. It will max out by 90 Kmoh which is fair enough for a 110cc engine.
The front end has telescopic forks which work at harmony with those 12”wheels. The scooter absorbs the road bumps with ease and was a pleasure to ride it even in a little harsh condition. The large size wheels give a good balance to this bike as the front and rear weight is equally distributed unlike standard scooters which are rear heavy. They have fitted this with MRF Zappers and they provide excellent grip. The scooter is light to flick around and changing directions won’t be an issue. The braking performance is good and the 130mm drums to the job well. . Mahindra isn’t offering alloy wheels or a disc brake setup at the front at the moment. But if all goes well with the Gusto, we are sure a facelift or a top of the line variant will definitely make it to the market.
The Gusto is up there with the competition. It has unique features like the flip key, height adjustable seats, and LED pilot lamps which are goodies which are always welcome for that riding enthusiast. The good room for rear occupants and the better weighted front end is a bonus. They are pricing it 43, 000 for the Dx variant and Rs. 47, 000 for the Vx variant.(Ex-showroom Delhi). If Mahindra mAnasultanges to increase their dealer network and keep the servicing up to the mark, there is no stopping this scooter from being a hit among the Indian buyers.
