We wanted to buy a new vehicle and being tempted by the ads for the new Balero SLX , we bought the same from M/S N B S Corpn., Mumbai.They made about 3 trips to our office to convince us about their vehicle and after assurance of prompt service , we finally bought the fully loaded version  on 3rd April 2007.


Here starts our travails;


Immediately on the 3rd day of purchase, we see black smoke coming out of our tail pipe.We call up and the vehicle is taken to the company and brought back after 2 days claiming there is no problem now.


The outer panel of  the tape recorder falls down frequently and we are informed that the same will be done at the time of first service. The RC handle of the doors are very delicate and both the front RC Levers break within 2months of purchase of the vehicle.


Since the running of the vehicle is not much, we felt that the same could be replaced at the time of 1st servicing.


Finally, we are given an appointment for 5th of Sept.2007 for servicing of the vehicle at NBS Corpn, (service centre known as Ambition Auto).We explain to Mr Sachin all our problems who asks us to come by 6.00pm and collect the vehicle.He also tries to sell us Oil Flush and oil treatment (cost app.Rs 1100/-)claiming that for the 1st servicing, these 2 things are recommended by the company.


However, upon my insistence to see Mahindra's any such recommendations, he backs out saying it is upto you to decide.


At about 3.00 pm, I am informed by Mr Sachin that the RC lever is costing app/Rs 1000/-each and that they have the same only for RHS and left side is not available.Based on my own experience in automobiles, I felt that the cost was too exorbitant and as such ask him not to replace the same.


At 5.30pm, I am telephonic ally informed by  Mr Sachin that the vehicle is ready for delivery and the app.bill is Rs 2000/-.When I reach there, I find the bill ready (for Engine oil, Gear oil, oil; filter and deisel filters).When I touch the under of the vehicle, I find heavy mud sticking on the chassis and other parts of the vehicle.When I point this out to Mr Sachin, he admits that the under washing was **not done since the washing pump was under repair. I am told that for the centre locking, only the mfgrs vendor (MINDA) would check and I would have to bring my vehicle some other day.The same was also said of tape recorder also.


*All along, the works manager was "so busy"that he did not even bother to come out and have a look at the vehicle.In fact, I was made to wait for half an hour to talk to him.


Finally on my insistence, they mentioned in the bill that the washing would be done next time and the respective companies would decide on the repairs of the tape recorder and centre locking.


However, they refused to write that they had not replaced the RC Levers because they quoted a price of Rs 1000/-each and the customer was not ready the same.To be sure of themselves, they made me wait for about 45 minutes to confirm the price of RC locks after which they said they would confirm the price the next morning.Meanwhile, using my contacts, I had found that the actual Mahindra price of RC Lock was Rs 106/-only as against app.Rs 1000/-as claimed by them.


By this time, I had lost my patience, and after writing all these facts on the gate pass , I took delivery of the vehicle around 8.00 pm.


Next morning.when I open my Bonnet, I find mud sticking on the fan shrouds, air cl.hose, pulleys etc.


coolant l in the aux.tank and the brake fluid reservoir are half the reqd levels.To top it all, the main door lock  does not get locked with the key.


This makes me really wonder, whether they have indeed replaced the oil, filters and gear oil for which they have charged me.?I am now not able to take my vehicle anywhere since it does not get locked, thanks to the dealer.


Does Mahindra not have a dealer monitoring system or is it a wilful party to this open loot and cheating by its dealers?Imagine a customer being made to pay 10 times the price of an item and yet not sure whether the work is satisfactory.


I have stopped using the vehicle for now and am waiting for Mahindra to send their "trained" senior people to me so that they get a first hand taste of their dealer's services.


Needless to add, this is a fit case under the MRTP, unfair practices, criminal and wilful cheating, besides the consumer protection services laws.


Being hard pressed for time, I would have wished to highlight the above facts in the media and in fact invite them to have a look into the bogus claims by the company.


I am sure that once this is highlighted, many more dissatisfied customers would join me in the same.


Finally, I request all readers to beware of such dubious claims of service by the companies and in fact rely on authentic companies .
