My review is restricted to Madikeri, the capital of Coorg or Kodagu district in Karnataka, india and not to the whole of Coorg.

Madikeri, it’s a small hill locked town which is around 220km away from Bangalore. I spent a weekend there and my stay was bad. Let me explain you why?

We planned it in last minute and had really less time to plan. We tried booking some hotels online but none was were satisfying. After calling few people who are aware about this place, they suggested us a place that was not mentioned online and confirmed the booking over the phone.

The road within Coorg is bad, narrow and topsy turvy. It was trying. We reached Coorg around midnight and found our hotel. The hotel was not good but since it was late we had no choice than settling there for the night. Next morning we went out searching for a different hotel since there was no way we could stay there for 3 nights. We checked each and every hotel from 1000-4000 rupees category hotel in Madikeri but everything was worse than what we had got. So reality struck us and we decided to stay there.

We went to the nearby abbey falls and raja seat that day which was okey, nothing great nothing new. We had our lunch at Greenland hotel and found that there are 2 menus at this hotel. One is for locals and the other one for tourists. The tourist menu is so expensive and the menu was limited. Not completely satisfied with our lunch we left.

The same evening we wanted a place to relax and have some drinks and dinner. There is no one such decent place in Madikeri to do it. We picked some drinks to our room and consumed. Dinner. again lack of restaurants. I mean there are very average restaurant which is nothing special to Coorg and I do not wish to dine there during a holiday.

Coorg is famous for their destinctive cuisine as well, but when the entire town is busy mimicking the North Indian roti - butter chicken - paneer dishes is not good. But with the help of trip advisor we found a place which serves local cuisine. Restaurant was full, we opted for a take out. To our surprise there were couple of food which was missing. Disappointed and frustrated at this point.

Next, we visited Madikeri in winter, the temperature was down and too chilli. The hotel had provided us with just one think blanket which was not warming enough. On requesting for another blanket they refused.

Had to pay fine for traffic police since we drove on a one way street, because there was no board which said it’s not one way! The police was super rude, extracted money from us. In the same time a local guy came from the wrong side as well, but he was let go.

So these experience has made me not to visit Madikeri again, I will visit Coorg but not Madikeri. This place has nothing to offer. Yes there are places some 20km away from Madikeri but not in Madikeri. Don’t believe me? Just check trip advisor
