‘Music television’ when jumbled, can also read ‘live mice sit on us’. That’s just about how low MTV is now. MTV sure knows how to adapt stuff from their close competitors. One such thing is the new MTV love ke liya. Channel [V] came up with ‘[V] crush’. A program where people express their love or liking to their crush. A nice program that leaves people unencumbered. Mtv love ke liye seem to be an outright cheap imitation of [v] crush. Here’s what is done on MTV love ke liye. People who are in love (or at least claim to be) publicly express (display) their love to their loved one in the weirdest manner thinkable. A few episodes include
A guy fought, er.. actually wrestled (kushti) a regular muscular, well-built professional wrestler (pailwan) at an akhada (mud and muck pit). All only to prove his undying love to his girlfriend. The result of course was that he not so surprisingly and not so amazingly, won.
Another guy, adorned a chef’s hat for a day. He became a cook for a day and cooked in his own way, a meal for his girlfriend, got her on the show and surprised her. 3. A lady, (who supposedly went around with her senior in collage and later went on to marry him), painted an entire huge hoarding for her hubby in 1 day, in the scortching sun, at one of the prime locales in Nasik, amid daily traffic. She quite literally painted her love.
THE WORST: A girl (quite good looking but with a sad accent and attitude I may add) realizes she is in love with her close friend. She thus decides to express that to him by dancing in front of his balcony, in his colony, atop a bus. Totally disgusting! was the first thing that came to my mind. This sort of thing sure raises a lot of brows. It makes those guys and gals look decadent and gormless.
The couples featuring on this show win themselves a year’s supply of Cadbury diary milk. Cadbury happens to be one of the main sponsors to these events of stupidity. Love doesn’t mean, testing your limits. It doesn’t need a public display of your deep feelings, nor does it need chocolates, flowers, dances or a glamorous broadcast. It is something that is quite abstract and can really only be felt. You are not proving much by doing something unusual at an esplanade. I agree, it takes a lot of guts to do something out of the blue in front of the camera, with hoards of people staring at you but it really doesn’t do much for your love. It will undoubtedly earn you a stamp of insanity and a lot of people will vouch that you have lost it. It may seem that it is a wonderful to have someone do something audacious for you. That is if you are certain the person you are doing it for is ‘the one’. On the other hand if you are asking someone out like this and that person declines, wow, you are then left with a great deal of embarrassment and that too on national television. Like the girl who shook more than just a leg on a bus for ‘Shakira’s wherever whenever’ for a guy, against all odds, only to realize that the guy does not love her as anything more than a friend. Phew! just imagine what her parents would have gone through? All a futile attempt alongside the embarrassment.
All together MTV has lost its popularity and audience. Its just another music channel with facetious VJ’s. Their creative heads need to rack their brains and come up with something innovative and entertaining. New channels like B4U are in fact better than MTV For all the people out there It is a great thing to be in love, and when you are in love and wish to express it, you know where not to go!
