More often than not, while cocooning or channel surfing, you would find it is most typical of MTV to imitate just about any program on any channel on any idea rather pathetically. This is precisely what they have done with MTV Bum me dum. This reality show is a condensed version of the highly rated nbc program “Fear Factor”.

Fear factor hosted by Joe Rogan, has 6 contestants all around the USA who test their limits by performing really averting stunts. It includes everything from sleeping in a pit with over 200 rats to traveling from one building to another by riding bike 7 floors up and in a ledge 12 inches wide! It overawed audiences worldwide and critics were more dazed than starry-eyed. The one central reason for people to attempt such exceptional being the cash prize of $50,000 for the person who completes all the tasks. Also sometimes the trash talk and conniving competition could turn pretty ugly!

MTV’s own abridged 30-minute-show consists of 3 teams of 2 members from around the nation. This program also consists of 3 prodigious stunts with a prize of Rs.50, 000 (surprise! surprise!). Audiences nationwide can easily classify this program as languid and reproachable. A few of the grotesque stunts performed till now include eating fruits taken from a puddle of muck, rescuing a plastic baby by swimming across a muddy lake and maneuvering yourself along a rope across 2 buildings. These stunts seem scornful and gauche and do not have much of an appeal to audiences.

Truth be told – the chances of finding compelling programs on MTV is few and far between. The last thing we need is a parody of other TV programs.

At the end of the day if you want to stay sane – stay away from MTV.
