Connection Reliability:

Help & Support:

I am not at all happy with my Triband connection. The connection is highly unreliable. One, it doesn't work on 5 out of 7 days. Two, even if it is working it keeps disconnecting every once in a while.

I used to have the connection first at Mahim (Mumbai). I had these problems there as well. I was told by the MTNL engineer there that there was some problem with the batteries deployed for my area and for that reason the connection keeps getting disrupted.

Realizing that the problem wouldn't be solved, I got the internet disconnected. (Getting a connection off your back is another interesting story by itself. You can get an internet connection just by calling them and requesting for the same over the phone and a guy will come with a form and do the needful. But you cant get it disconnected without visiting the local telephone exchange personally.)

Subsequently I opted for a Hathaway connection, which though slow, was working 24 hours a day on all days and without any disruptions.A few months later I had to move houses. For my new house in Bandra-east Hathaway connection was not available. So I had to go back to MTNL and thinking that since this is a different area the 'battery' problem would probably not be there I went ahead and got a new Triband connection on the MTNL line that I got transferred to the new location.

Its been about 5 months and the MTNL connection has once again been a pain. It gets disconnected for days, the MTNL staff has no clue why that happens, one has to call helpline every few days and go through the same time-wasting process of checking all the setting, then they say they would send someone, and ofcourse the same cycle keeps repeating all the time. In the meantime I bought a Reliance Data Card and use it for all my work. It is always on (though slow... but that is expected). Just because of the pain of going to the MTNL exchange I haven't yet got my triband disconnected and have been paying 300 a month unnecessarily, but I guess I would surrender the connection soon.

In short, I recommend that you should not even think of taking an MTNL Triband connection. I think they have given out more connections that they can handle and they are not able to service these now. So AVOID PAIN AND STAY AWAY.
