Good but there is still a long way to go. Review on MTNL Broadband

I have been using MTNL Broadband for 3 years now. I am using an unlimited plan which suits my needs as I download a lot.

Installation was slow and I had to chase down the telephone technician of my area and do some sweet talk to get it installed.

Still it took around a week for my connection to get installed. After the line was installed, I called up the customer care and they sent the Broadband technician in 2 days.

Even after installing all the hardware the internet didn't work. There was some setting which needed to be configured on the ISP side. Anyway finally after 10 days I was able to use my new Broadband connection. This is extremely slow compared to private operators who are at your door usually the next day and finish everything in one sitting.

The internet connection is up around 95% of the time. Bad weather usually takes it out. Whenever it starts raining, the probability connection going off is around 70%. Internet connection also has a tendency to drop randomly for short times ranging from 1-30 minutes. Now this is not a huge problem for downloading, but is really bad for other things like when there is an important email and the net is down. Or when you need to make a Video call and the internet is down or the connection is shaky.

When it is up it works fine and the download speeds are as promised.

In terms of pricing it's good but definitely not the most economical, there are providers who are offering better deals.

Customer service is really bad. One time I did not have internet for almost a month and I still had to pay the monthly fee. Luckily I had my data card to get me through the month. Getting it fixed involved a similar ordeal to installation, chasing the line man, arguing with tech support, busy helplines and stuff.

I'm going to switch to another provider soon.
