I was looking for for a Dual SIM handset, with a decent camera, music player , with qwerty keypad which can let me use Opera Mini browser.
When I saw this handset, the features and the cost at which it was being offered, there was little I had to think. For the amount which I paid for thishandset, I am getting more than I bargained for. To start with, MicroMax seems to be a bit reputed amongst the new entrants (LAVA, Karbon, MAXX, INQ etc). The handset is attractively priced ( I got it for Rs.3750 ) from a shop in Mumbai. With an additional Rs 300 I got a 2 GB MicroSD card too.
Looks wise Q5 is stunner. Infact even better than its successor the Q7 which I will talk about later. You can expect many of yr friends to walk up to you and ask "Blackberry hai ? ".The QWERTY keypad is having a 'Trackball' which is a pleasure to use. Internet browsing is just fine, comes preloaded with an Opera Mini Browser & Facebook application. DUAL SIM functionality is very good, you can even control which of the two SIMs you wish to keep active. At a time we can receive call on only one SIM.
Best part is before making every call/ SMS it asks you whether you wish to call/send it by SIM 1 or SIM 2.
You will be impressed with the sound quality...Thanks to the inbuilt YAMAHA Amplifiers !!
Battery life is good, with my above average usage I can go in for a day and a half without a recharge.
There is a 'Dedicated Facebook buton', but unfortunately it opens the WAP version of facebook, which isnt that attractive. To get the full version of Facebook access it using the Opera Mini Browser.
Now for some things which could have been improved :
1) CAMERA : It IS a 2 Megapixel camera, however the 'pickup' or the 'CCD sensor' isnt very fine, so be prepared for some dull pics, and an advice, when u first use this camera with its 'default' setting , the image quality may badlydisappointyou. Dont lose heart, just play with the 'White Balance' and 'Image Settings', better still try using it in "Night Mode", you will get better quality pics, although you will need a very stable hand when using this mode. ( I Checked the Q7, it has a slightly better camera with Exposure Value (EV) settings upto +- 4.0 compared to just+- 2.0 of Q5)
2) FM/Music Player- There is no option of just browsing thru the FM Stations, you need to go thru the entire menu to select a station. You cant do it using the handsfree kit either.
3) A small but relevant thing is missing....I have a habit of using a string with my cell....Q5 does not have an opening wherein we can put in the string (So u need to be very careful as it can slip out of yr hand ).
4) Very complicated interface, I brought this handset a week back, and not used to it.
5) When u attend a call, the caller party's voice may echo a bit (like if the called party is speaking thru a cardboard cone). But that should not be a problem, try reducing theear piecevolume, it helps :-)
VERDICT : GO FOR IT ! You will getabsoluteValue for each of your rupee spent.
HOWEVER, if you want WIFI, and a 'slightly' better camera, the go for its successor the Q7, which should cost you around 1500 Rs more.
