I bought an MEPL discman on 26.05.05, from the distributor near Ritchie St., Madras. It is still working fine...
It is a good player, it does not skip MP3s when it is left undisturbed, but when you take a walk it skips. Audio CDs skip more frequently when the unit is moved around. I think that the antishock does work to an extent.
You may need to purchase a pouch or bag as this player does not come with a belt clip.
Compatibility is good. It plays all kinds of CDs.
But for the price, you can't ask more... it is really worth it. If you want anything better you may go in for a Sony or Panasonic original discman which is available in the grey market from Rs.3000.
A pair of rechargeable 700mAH NiCD AA batteries usually lasts for two hours... thats it! Haven't tried the standard AA batteries yet!
It comes with a 4.5V DC external adaptor which is very essential (phew!!)...
Ok, it does have a 'recharge' function but many rechargeable batteries have a 'memory effect'... i.e. they last long only if you drain them fully before recharging (NiCd).. However this is not true for NiMh batteries which can be charged at any point. So its better to remove the batteries while using the adaptor.
The stick remote is very useful indeed.. so is the wireless remote (of course!). (btw.... there are instances where the remote has been mistaken for a cell phone!!! )
Build quality is a whole lot better than the cheaper chinese models such as ''Sign'' and ''Pansonic''... it looks good and feels strong. The design is simple and neat.
The backlit LCD is useful in the dark, but you can activate it only by using the buttons on the unit or the stick remote... it does not glow when you use the wireless remote.
ISO 9001:2000 ?? yes I feel it is well worth the certification!
