My truest experience at M O P Vaishnav College is a big waste of money and severe lack of satisfaction. The college has a self imposed fame due to it's media influence and superiority complex that makes most of the faculty very unapproachable. Neither are the faculty good at teaching. The college focusses on the practical activities and events to promote the college rather than learn and test true academic knowledge. At the end of three years, I hardly feel I know more than what I knew after school, except that I learn how horrid the world could be at M O P Vaishnav College for women.
The only good parts of the college were the divine shrine of the pillayar, the canteen(which was expensive though) and the friends you get to make.
Coming from a reputed schooling background, at M.O.P. I lost my polishness and dislearned respect towards gurus, 'cause they simply didn't earn it from us. It was utter torture and pressure for tiny things that never matter at all. Things like activities, community serivces, getting sponsors for college and lack of consideraction for a student's problems. At the end of the day, my degree hardly has a value as I don't feel I've learned anything.
The college stresses on some fancy things like Entrepreneurship and forgoes concentration on the degree. I feel Meenakshi College students are so strong in their subjects, they too have fests in college to a required level. Stella Maris has more fun and the students seem to enjoy as well.
At M. O. P. they have digital lab(with old computers) and Projectors, etc. whcih are hardly allowed to be used. In such a small college, the number of students coming forward to make use itself is less, still they ll be stingy and stick of OHPs for some fancy claim about ICT intergrated classrooms. The FM is run well and is very appreciable. The campus TV is just for a show. But better used than the computer resources. It's sad that the college claims so much and doesn't actually have the guilt that they are being so overly cheesy about themselves.
The sports students who come to M . O.P. through the scholarship go through hell. There is a hostel room where around 30 girls stay in one cramped room. Other sports girls are often denied their scholarship if they didn't win for the college. Many of them come from financially weak sections and it pushes them down in esteem and gives them too much pressure to play well .
Everything at M.O.P. requires money. Students call m .o.p stands for money only policy. At the end of the day, you just need an arts degree. I don't see the point in paying so much, going through hell for an arts college, when you have an option to get it with more satisfaction in some other college. Please don't put your head in the whale's mouth. Never get here.
