Well, I read reviews by other members on their experience is leaning towards the bitter experiences that they have had on LH flights. Let me also share something that I feel will add to this 'Debate'

First; I live in Mumbai and am involved in work that requires International Marketing in Europe. I specifically cater to the German market.

Second: I have been associated with the German culture and business since more than 5 years now. I also have an office in Germany[Freiburg]

Third: I travel to Germany at least 4-5 times a year.

For my 1st visit to Europe, I chose LH as the carrier simply because my 1st meeting was in Frankfurt. I also am a firm believer that one should travel only in the domestic carrier of the country where you are likely to land [in this case LH as I had work in Frankfurt]. Note that my 1st visit, LH was not part of the Star Alliance Group and therefore had a few affiliations [except with U.A.] for travel within the USA.

LH has only 1 flight per day for Mum-Frank [LH-756] or LH-757 taking off at either 01:50 or 02:50 HRS.

SECOND: I love travelling...I can live in a plane travelling all year long and still want more at the end of the year. I have visited Europe [always on LH] 15 times in the past

2.5 years. This does not make me a regular traveller but qualifies me as a Frequent one.

To come to the point; I know Germans and their culture/thinking pretty well now. I don't think Germans are 'RUDE, RESERVED, INTROVERTS or Overly Professional' but I do know that they give a lot of importance to 'PRIVACY' and 'Minding their own business' attitude.

To give you an example; I was visiting the CeBIT Expo in Hannover this March-05 and took accomodation with the help of the IGCC [Indo German Chambers of Commerce] to find a place as close to the fair as possible. I was lucky to get a place close to the expo grounds which require a few minutes walk.

The host [a divorced middle aged woman] where I found a room to stay in vacated her own room to accomodate me [all the other rooms were already rented out]. I lived there for 5nights in total.

So, here I was staying in the master bed room of my host whereas she was sharing a room with one of her sons and every morning she would wait for me to leave for the expo before she could take her clothes from her storage BUT would only have a shower in her sons bathroom!! She never entered her own bathroom till the day I vacated. Also strict instructions were given to all her family members not to enter the room without my permission. Every evening once I returned from the Fair, I could walk straight into her room [mine for a few days] and lock it without coming out till the next morning and not even speak one word to her and this would NOT be considered 'Impolite'

I guess the point I am trying to make here is YES they are a little more reserved than other cultures but not rude. They just don't want to intrude in our private domain till we ask them too. SURE there will be cases of offensive and rude behaviour but 95% of the time 1st time travellers mistake their respect for our privacy as being 'RUDE'

I still think LH is the best and most punctual airline in the world eventhough the planes are too old now [at least for Mum-Frankfurt] I did fly Frankfurt-New York once and for this journey they dont use the 747-400 but the smaller planes therefore making the journey far more 'Cramped'

My overall exp. is positive and I too have had staff members at the Frankfurt boarding gate being rude, but just go there once and see the chaos we create as compared to other sectors and you will realize the reason for them acting so 'Cocky'

This is actually my 1st review on this site so mistakes may be pointed out to me:)

Later,

Moadweeb
