I have travelled many times on LH. Enough to have lost count, both in economy and business class. The funny thing is, their service is really inconsistent. Flying out of Mumbai has almost always been a pleasant experience (as regards the ground staff). However, the check-in staff and the lounge staff at the various airports in Germany, and the cabin crew on the plane, are either really nice or pretty indifferent. In one or two cases, downright rude. It's uncanny, but often, on a flight, I have noticed that either most of the crew are totally morose, or they are all cheerful and friendly. I have tried to correlate this with whether it has to do with their flying away from Germany, to the US, or back to Germany, and there's really no basis for generalization here. I sometimes think that it has to do with the purser on a flight, and his or her personality is often reflected in the behavior of the crew. I have even talked to a purser about this (on a flight with really good service) and even he agreed with me about the inconsistency. Their punctuality level is high on intercontinental flights, but not that great for flights within Germany. The food can be very good; sometimes it can be pretty bad. Recently, they withdrew a great facility that was available to FTLs and Senators, i.e. priority in getting seats. This is now limited only to full fares. I am feeling extremely put off about this and I am sure many others are. This is an important facility, and if anyone from LH is reading this, this withdrawal will probably cause your loyal silver/gold card holders to go elsewhere. After all, if you cannot get a seat, you have to fly another airline.
3 YEARS AND SEVERAL FLIGHTS LATER: I have to stick with the same general description: inconsistent.
