Dreams!
Our dreams conflate verbal, visual and emotional stimulations into a sometimes broken, sometimes preposterous but often entertaining story line.
Lucky- No time for loveis such a dream, seen from the eyes of a 17 year old schoolgirl.
Er.. correction . As Michele (Rani Mukherjee in Black) would put it '' We do not need eyes to dream!we dream through our mind''.
Actually on second thoughts, if the later was true, then how come people like me are able to dream? Huh? Huh? Huh?
Slap!! aaaaah !
That came from my friend sitting next to me, for deflecting from the main topic. (And in case some of you are still perplexed, that aaaah! came from yours truly, as an aftermath of that tight slap across my face: D).
Lets start with Sallu bhaiyya. Sometimes just like any other movie buff, I marvel why is Shahruk (SRK) so lonely at the top and why doesn't he have Salman, Aamir or someone else for company.
While Aamir keep himself out of the race by doing almost one movie per decade, Lucky answers the question aptly for Salman fans. For a man who has almost everything perfectly chalked out for him is found wanting in one important area, his speech. There are only few instances where he emotes justly though his voice. Other than that his voice modulation fails badly at crucial junctures.
In the movie, he (Aditya)enacts role of a 30 something son of Indian Ambassador in Russia who accidentally runs into a fellow country girl Lucky (Sneha Ullal), an Indian origin schoolgirl on her journey for survival from a Russian ''Prem Chopra''(pun intended), amidst unanticipated insurgency somewhere in Chechnya.
The move is about 'How they met, how they survived, fell in love, survived and finally expressed their love for each other'.
Everything in the movie is perfectly sketched out to make it big at the box office, but for some loose screen play and acting in the middle overs (Oops! Got carried away. Too much of cricket around u see!), the movie fails to fascinate the audience all along.
It is however the second half that lifts the movie from shambles and does the trick. This speaks volumes about the directors (Radhika Rao and Vinay Sapru)and acting skills of Salman Khan. How struggle for life brings the two main protagonist together and how they eventually realize their love for each other is what ''Lucky''is all about.
The idea of a love story set against a picturesque backdrop of St. Petersburgsnow-clad winters between a middle aged man and an innocent young schoolgirl and their struggle for survival in a war-ridden foreign land is in itself so fascinating, that if we ignore regular distractions in form of concerned parents, a graveling cameo by Mithun ( P.D.Kapoor)Da, Kader'' I speak Russian''Khan, the movie is a winner.
The movie also scores intemperately on other front like its dew fresh pairing, Sneha Ullal'sraw yet telling looks, vivacious depiction of insurgency in Russia and last but not the least soul-stirring music.
From ? lucky lips?to '' Shayad yehi to pyaar hai'',all the songs in the movie have life attached and winner stamped over it. Shot amid breathtaking locales the song '' shayad yehi ..''has all qualities to become an all-time great love song.
But despite so many pros, the film fizzes out every now and then due to lack of gripping storyline and its Leakingand inconsistent pace. Film's editing is nothing short of ordinary.
On acting front Sneha Ullaldeserves special mention for this movie. Under tremendous pressure because of her looks, she has impressed one and all with her raw, innocent, ?face from the crowd? looks and convincing portrayal of ''Lucky''. She is a welcome change in an industry where all the girls come with a ''Star''label attached to them.
We haven't talked about SalmanHave we?
Apart from this irritating ability to falter at important points with his voice (sounds annoyingly comical where required to vox mature), he has done decent job in the movie. But nowhere near to some stunning performance lately (Tere Naam, Mujhse Shaadi Karogi etc.)
Finally a suggestion for '' Dove?''soap makers: Go get Salmanquickly and make him your brand ambassador.
In his early 40's, his face still glows like a 100-watt electric bulb!.
Kyon Sallu ?Is it Dove or..Love? Huh?
And if you are wondering where to direct your complaints on this review, it's just a click away.
