The title says it all. A friend once asked me, ''Give me the skeleton of Love Story,''' and I said, ?It is a love story.? Try how hard you may, but this is the best you can tell about ?Love Story.?

This is a story of love, the story of Oliver and Jenny. So real, so painful, so helpless. Oliver Barret IV went to Harvard and Jenny Cavilleri to Radcliffe. He was rich, she was poor. He was sporty, she played music. He was a millionaire and she was a baker?s daughter. There was nothing in common except for the love they shared.

Oliver and Jenny meet at the Radcliffe library, though Oliver doesn?t fancy her at the beginning the call of love is too strong for either of them to resist. Oliver?s father however would want him to first have a degree of law and then get married but Oliver opts otherwise and both get married. Life is then a struggle- Oliver studies law and Jenny teaches music. He gets into a leading law firm after completing his law and they decide to have a baby. This is when tragedy strikes, Jenny is diagnosed with Leukemia. There is such an overwhelming urge in Oliver to save her but death knows no emotions. Jenny dies in Oliver?s arms-her last words- ''Thanks Ollie.''

What do you do after reading such a paramount love story - cry, thank God for all the happiness he has bestowed on you or tell Eric Segal, ''Why couldn?t Jenny live, just why couldn?t she? Eric Segal had actually been flooded with letters to give life to Jenny again. The success of 'Love Story' can perhaps be attributed to its tragic ending. 'Love Story' has been the greatest love story of all times.

I read somewhere, ''A love story can never have a happy ending, because a love story never has an end.'' How true, No love story has an end. It is a journey, which grows with time, or a journey whose memories grow with time.
