I read Love Story for the first time on the summer I turned 14. It was an amazing experience. This tale of true love really got me passionate about books and reading. It was the first book that I fell in love with, that had me turning the pages and devouring the characterisation so voraciously. Though I chose computers and software as my chosen career, I found that this book could even melt the heart of a hardcore techie such as me!
Every time I feel lonely or down, I still read this book. It’s an awesome Ode to relationships and what I like about it is the fact that it always stays evergreen. The catch phrase “Loves means never having to say you’re sorry, ” is something that was emulated(much to my horror) in the blockbuster hindi film ‘Maine Pyar Kiya’ as well. There is just something so endearing Oliver and Jennifer. And I like the fact that the book doesn’t preach about love neither does it tell us how to love, or give us an overtly emotional portrayal of true love. Ugh! Thank goodness. I’m a very sensible kind of person, not the mushy type and this book really appeals to my intellect as well. Perhaps the first story. Segal can sway the no-nonsense audience, as much as he can soppy sentimental types and that certainly does work to his credit. This book continues to be a worldwide publishing phenomenon. If it were left to me, I would prescribe it in English class for all high school students! It would teach them, not just about literature, but about life's bitterest lessons-loss of a loved one and the need to live with memories.
