What does one say about the LOTR trilogy? You have a passionate director who is confident enough to spend 300 million dollars and shoot all the three parts back to back. On the other side are the equally enthusiastic followers amongst the audience, most of them who have read the book and are eagerly awaiting the next instalment to appear on screen. But most of us, I presume, are the ones who are just keen to know what the hullabaloo is about.

From what I understood, the story is about a ring that entices people to become evil and also, if worn, will make them powerful. Our hero is chosen to take it to a particular place and destroy it so that good will prevail. Along with him are various humans and human-like creatures to help him out; as usual, there are people who want to prevent him and also take possession of the ring. This movie concludes that journey. Pardon me for mistakes; I even dared to skip the second movie in the series.

Most of this movie is spent in a war between some good and bad folks. The special effects, art direction and audiography are simply mind-blowing. That way, this movie betters The Fellowship of the Ring. The climax is good enough, but the 'farewell' is little too prolonged. Just like Matrix, there will probably be quite a few people happy that this is the last of the sequels.

The audio-visual extravaganza is sadly not sufficient to arouse interest in an outdated story. It goes to a point where you're totally disinterested in the story and are just waiting to see the next on-screen spectacle. The actors do justice to their roles though, none of them rising above the story. The characters themselves are moderately interesting.

Eleven Oscar nominations seem way too high even for this inspired effort. Anyway, in a week's time, we would know how many of them translate to actual awards.

Bottom-line: Watch it in a theatre, if you must.
