Well its Romance in the air and lot of romantic movies are making their way on the silver screen (Courtesy - IPL is over!)

Recently saw Ranjhanaa and was a bit disappointed with the climax and overall feel of the movie. Was expecting a bit better from Lootera and guess what? This was a big big bore from the former....

Strange is the fact that you shell out 35 Crores of budget and have a ready-made story from a novel (The Last Leaf) and still manage to mess it with almost everything.

Adopting movies from novel is not new in Bollywood, but it takes a very concrete execution and an over the top screenplay to make sure that the viewer doesn't loose its interest while watching it. Reading a novel and enjoying it is a different thing and watching the same thing on the screen where the characters in the story come alive is altogether a different phenomenon. I personally love reading novels and if there is any movie on the same novel I try to correlate and analyse to what I had read, what I perceived and anticipate the same/almost equal thing on the silver screen. More often that not its always just an inch below my expectations from the pages of the novel and the scrolls of the movie. (Many would agree when I say we enjoyed Twilight/Harry Potter series while reading it more than what we saw it on the screen)

Lootera is no exception to the fact the execution of the movie from a book is challenging and may not do justice to the author's/readers feel of the plot!

The plot of the movie is more than evident from the promos itself. Varun (Ranvir Singh) is a thief and makes his living out of "Looting" the Kings/Big Zamindars/Filthy Rich people. On one of his encounter he meets Pakhi (Sonakshi Sinha) and fells for her. His background doesn't allow him to have any kind of relationship and its his destiny to abandon his love and move on.... But, does he???

What happens when Pakhi realizes the truth of Varun? Will she punish him? Does she pursuits him for revenge? Does she bogs down in sorrow and greif? The answers to these questions are the actual culprits and its where the torture begins...... The length of the movie is around 2.22 hrs and it couldn't do any justice to the overall plot of the movie. There are plenty of loopholes and flaws and one can stop counting them since they are just too many!

Recently, had seen an ad of a chocolate where it says too much sweet is dangerous... And its true if the protagonist of the movie is tooooooo sweet to comfort! Ranvir as Varun has played this character so low that at times you wouldn't even understand what is he saying? The masculine RS that we were made aware of in Band Baja Barat is just not there... Agreed that the plot of the movie and the requirement of the character was to be subtle....but this subtle would eventually make it "Soulless" No idea as to who told him or guided him to play the character the way he did in the movie - A complete disaster! Sorry to RS fans but this movie is the one which I want to forget as one of RS films.... Pale dialogue delivery, no punch, no stomach in the character ...basically nothing HERO material!

Sonkashi Sinha as Pakhi has delivered just toooooo good! She completely ate RS left right centre. Guys this girl is climbing the towers and getting better and better and better. If you want to watch the movie SS is one good reason to get in the cinema hall...

Vikrant Masseyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy - Just woow! This fellow has a great screen presence and an excellent dialogue delivery. He is effective, versatile and makes you feel to keep watching him. In a sense if he had been in the lead this movie would have been much better. He looks great and even in the short role that he had, he made his presence count!

Adil Husssein/Divjya Dutta/Barun had delivered as professionals - Superb!

Apart from being extremely dragging and unconvincing execution of the plot there is one another big turn down in the movie - Background score! Can you believe if I tell you that while watching the movie you keep hearing the songs in the back ground for good 4-5 minutes? And to that the you have to focus on what the actors are talking? Its disturbing, annoying and just out of balance. Not sure who did the background score for the movie but whoever did this had done a terrible job!

Music by Amit Trevedi is fine but not to the mark. You would eventually forget the songs once you step out of the cinema hall unless the Radio jockeys keeps playing them for you all the time!

So with all such issues is there anything that goes in favor of the movie? YES... the locations! The art director has done a fantastic job of setting up beautiful sets. The fantastic locales of East India will win your heart for sure. The cameraman has done a splendid job of taking most beautiful sights from his lens and earned certain brownie points for himself.

My rating for this movie is 1 star and that is only for beautiful locations and Vikrant Massey/Sonakshi Sinha.

I am open for your valuable comments.
