I have read a lot of 'BPL bashing' reviews here. But I guess that has been your experience. Here's mine:


I have been using BPL mobile for the last two years and have always found it great and much better than Orange.


Their Network coverage is very good. When I decided to opt for BPL Mobile, almost everyone I knew tried to dissuade me saying that Orange has a stronger signal in new Bombay (where I work). Totally untrue as I found out when I got my BPL connection, I found colleagues using Orange running to windows or outdoors to receive or make their calls whereas I would always get calls indoors. And this has nothing to do with the model of phone being used. I have received calls with a clear signal and no disturbance in places as far away as Panvel and even while travelling by train.


I have not faced a problem with SMS so far - except for one or twice during the weekends.


I have never had a billing problem with BPL. I keep very close track of my calls and never been over charged. Couple of my friends did complain abt heavy bills but when we took a close look at their bills they found that they were paying for services that they didnt' really use much. Like a friend found that she had asked for several ''Friend and Family' numbers AND Night Speak when she spoke to those same friends only at night! Getting rid of all the unwanted services knocked almost 500 bucks off her bill.


This is true of both Orange and BPL.


My advice: Be a smart customer




  1. Review your plan constantly. Evaluate whether your plan suits your usage pattern. You may be paying 175 bucks for Night speak but are you making and receiving that many calls at night?




  2. Be on the lookout for new plans which work to your advantage.






If you don't pay your bill on time (which I sometimes get too busy to do) BPL doesn't just disconnect. I have always been given a call and they block your outgoing calls and when you pay your bill ( a couple of days late), it's restored at no additional cost within a couple of hours.


You can pay bills in a variety of ways - cheque, cash, debit card. - never had a prob with that. Beats running around to find drop boxes!


Right now my handset isn't working and when I went to pay my bill, I mentioned it and the customer service person immediately suggested that I suspend the service if I wasn't planning get a phone right away, otherwise I would have to pay phone rental, CLIP and all the other stuff unnecessarily till I got a new phone. I was quite happy with the service.


I don't usually get wrong numbers. Just a handful of times in the last 2 years. Probably people inadvertently punching the wrong number. I don't know if that's because I got a prepaid number and on the same number moved over to monthly billing.


For me it's been a 'hassle free' service. My brother had such a tough time with Orange, he finally got rid of them and opted for BPL and has never regretted it since.
