Confused?? well, I Guess you are the lucky one, not having to take pains to travel by mumbai local train to reach your work place. Dhak Dhak Dhak Dhak …..YES mumbai local trains are lifeline of every mumbaite who has to travel daily to reach his her workplace.

Have you ever given a thought how much more will this local train survive? NO!!!

Well!! I have traveled in local trains since past 4 years and here are some genuine advice from me Happy the great!!! lol :)

Always Crowded - However empty the train will be ladies please travel by ladies compartment only!! Well if you can afford travel by 1st class.

Once I, my hubby dear and one friend after watching a movie were to come back by local train from churchgate to goregaon(around 50-55 minutes journey), the train being full empty we were so happy and all three of us got in general compartment, we were busy talking and by the time dadar (mid way) came, the train was jam packed and my hubby dear has to take care of two girls was very tensed ( not that I and our friend were relaxed) somehow we could get down I at goregaon and both of them at malad. Friend dear also dropped her cotton world bag with the new shirt in it.

Dirty - Please keep the station/train clean.

I know you must be saying it’s easy to say than to implement but believe me I always put the trash in the dustbin (if I am lucky to find one on the platform), in my pocket or purse and even ask my friends to do so. I dare not give advice to an unknown person else … bhagwan bachaee(please don’t even try giving advice to a not known person, don’t blame me later). You will see people dropping rubbish, spitting here and there, making the platform and trains dirty and I m sure u will be cursing them. When you do the same they will curse you for sure.

Check Your Ticket - Please make a point to check your Coupon validating machine (CVM) print / ticket / money before leaving the ticket window.

It has happened with me so many times that now my hubby calls me a jinx. If I use CVM then the print time will be wrong and I will get caught. If I buy a ticket the print wont be proper, just some or the other problem. So you better check your ticket before starting your journey.

<<>>Few of the many other problems with our platforms and our trains:<<>>

1. Long Queue for tickets, start your journey 15 minutes before.

2. the polish walas make walking difficult on a crowded platform.

3. No proper ventilations in some platforms like Churchgate, will feel suffocated at times.

4. Sometimes the announcements that the train will be late or the train will come in another platform will be after the train has arrived.

5. no dustbins for throwing trash.

6. canteen and snacks are horrible, don’t try even if you are dying ;-)

7. Loo smells like hell, if urgent natures call need to attend then a small piece of advice, hold your breath as long as possible.

<<>> Did You Know ? <<>>

- the halt time of a train on each station is less than 1 minute.

- people travel in opposite direction of their destination to get a seat.

- ladies buy and cut vegetables on their way home.

- small kids less than 10 years of age will be selling keychains, hair clips, novels…..

- people in virar local are not allowed to get down at any platform before borivalli.

- theres a train every 3 minutes on each track.

<<>> Its not that bad.Infact it’s the Life Line of mumbai <<>>

- More than 15 lacs passengers commute daily and reach their respective destinations on time.

- It’s the fastest means of travel.

- Its probably the Cheapest ( having made the monthly/quarterly.. pass)

I hope and pray that the mumbai rail authority takes this seriously and do something about all the necessary problems and this lifeline never die.

So guys although you may think Mumbai Local Trains to be the worst its still the best. enjoy your journey and if you are coming to just visit mumbai do travel by local else you haven’t seen mumbai yet… hey don’t travel at the peak time (8:30 am to 11 am and 5 pm to 8 pm) else don’t blame me later you asked us to try….ha ha ha
