It's almost 20 years since I came to Bombay (that's what it was called in those halcyon days), and lived almost all of it in the suburbs -- both western and central.
And believe me, the fact that they are still running is a miracle! Any other railway in the world that carries three million passengers daily would have needed ten times the number of trains. Or they would have collapsed long ago.
In fact, this wonder of wonders has even inspired the BBC television guys to do a documentary on the subject. About two months ago, they were all over VT (no Chhatrapati business for me) with their video cameras and what not.
So that's another global tribute to us Indians. Three cheers for the Indian Railways!
