Baby….I”d love you to want me

The way that I want you

The way that it should be…

Baby ….you’d love me to want you..

The way that I want to..

If you only let it be…

Most of us have probably heard this great song (remember the bike ad that had it playing too ..which bike? …of course I don’t know ...Im not exactly the Bikey types ..you see). But how many of us know the singer of this song . My guess... 2 out of 5417023 would know (don ask me where I get my figures from :-)). So like I was talking about … LOBO. He is the man. Real Name Roland Kent LaVoie. For the music world he is Lobo (which actually means “Wolf” in Spanish!)…. Lobo was introduced to me by a friend of mine. I stuck on with Lobo ever since but lost track of the friend! :-(.

His songs have a very distinct feel to them. They seem very real. One can identify with the lyrics very easily. Simple songs written by a simple man (that’s Lobo himself). Songs which either puts a smile on your face or gets a twinkle in your eye or makes you wonder at some of the questions he asks...or songs that just want to make you want to slow dance with the love of your life…(for those who have a dog as the love of their life…well Im not referring to that right now...but I promise you I will get back to your dog song too..:-).

Just thought I’d list down a few of my favorites from the Lobo collection, just so that you can “feel the feel” of the songs.

Don’t expect me to be your friend …

I love you too much to ever start liking you

so lets just cut this story to the end …

I love you too much to ever start liking you

So don’t expect me to be your friend….

Lobo sings in his lonesome sound about how hard it is to ‘just friends’ with someone you’ve had deep feelings for. This song reminds some people of their College days (ouch those heartbreaks were nasty!) and then some people think of the time when you just had to stand and watch your love walk past away from you in life’s journey…and it isn’t a very pleasant feeling..but..c’est la vie…

A Simple Man

This song just throws simple questions at you ..… (the song actually reminds me of a 3 year old kid – delightfully curious, thought provokingly alive and fearlessly vocal ) I”m still searching for their answers.. Guys..tel me honestly ..do you really know why the teddy bear likes to sleep? Or ….who do you tell if you don’t have a friend!!! … what the elephants say when they are mad .. why do people make promises that they can’t keep..???

Rings

A ring ..well this word can be used so beautifully and differently ..like Lobo sings …….could be a telephone ring …doorbell ring … a ring around your pretty finger … let the wedding bells ring…

I never knew that a simple word like ''ring'' could be used in such different contexts ...could bring in so many different emotions and could so beautifully blend into each other ...and all this within 3 mins of the song!

Don’t tell me good night

Makes me feel so empty inside

As this song plays, you desperately want to be with your love…on a cool night…without any jazz of words ..just the two of you. Holding hands. And basking in the miracle called “love”.

Me and you and a dog named Boo …(I promised you Id get back to your dog song dint I?) Well this song is about me and you and a dog named Boo!! :-).

Lobo’s songs were written during a time of “emotional poverty” or in other words “a-lot-of-beer-time” :-). (moral of the story: Don’t drink and Drive …but you can drink and write-if you CAN that is :-))The songs are very “of-the-heart” and there is something about his voice which makes you want to believe him when he sings. THE BEST OF LOBO (Rhino Records Inc.)..is a must buy album for all those who enjoy simple songs sung with a great voice in a hearty tune. It has all the songs mentioned above plus one of my all time favourites … “Goodbye is just another word” :-) ...so goodbye until the next review :-)
