I initially shied away from this because as you may or may not know the American version of Lipton is terrible swill. It's ok for iced tea but that's about it.
As an American I did not grow up a tea drinker. Most people drink coffee. I used to drink coffee but I always liked tea. My wife is a first generation AMerican of Irish descent, and she only drinks tea, so this kind of means that I also only drink tea ;-) She prefers irish blends like Barry's Gold label, St. Thomas (from Marks n Sparks), and Bewley's. I like them too, but I drink alot of tea so I wanted to find good teas that I could buy cheaply in quantity. Hello to the local Indian market!
Lately I have been drinking Taj Mahal tea in bags, as well as Wagh Bakri loose ctc when I make a pot or choose to use the mesh infuser ball.
The local Indian market was all out of Taj and I needed more tea bags, so I got 2 boxes of Yellow Label. WOW! Nice tea! Strong and flavorful. The water is dark and thick almost as soon as the water pours over it. This is nothing like the American Lipton, which is called Orange Pekoe and is very light in color with a weak taste. Yuck!
I should have known that the Indian version would be good. I make myself ''quick chai'' at work. I have a large travel mug, I add sweetener, Masala spice, the teabag, and piping hot water. I fill it halfway and let it steep for a few minutes, then I fill it with hot microwaved whole milk or half & half, so that it doesn't make the drink cold. Very nice way to make chai at work. I know this isn't the traditional way and traditionalists will turn up their noses, but it works and it tastes pretty good. I have tried this with the Yellow Label and it makes a nice masala chai as well.
