It is one of Gemmell's best. This is the story of life of the ancient Greek general, Parmenion, from boyhood in Sparta where he has always been regarded as a misfit because of his mixed Spartan/ Macedonian parentage and treated cruelly and unfairly.
A sorcerer named Tamis continues to have visions about her death. There is only one person who she sees can save her. Parmenion Tamis then makes it her life goal to make sure that Parmenion becomes the greatest solider alive. Parmenion is hated by other children and Spartans. One reason being that his mother was Macedonian, parmenion then ends up siding with Philip of macedon to see the downfall of Greece.
I would recommended this book for others for a few reasons. One being that the main story line is crossed between historical facts and fantasies. Another being that it is cleverly written and has a clear story line. It is also full of action.
