The German Food Carnival @ Limelight, serving authentic German Food and Beer.
The place is done up in the German flag colour theme, adding authenticity to the event. German flags are placed on the tables, the roof and walls are decorated with Black, Red and Yellow balloons. A live band playing traditional folk music and the ladies attending looked cute in red German attire with a bread basket around their necks.
Along the walkway are a line of intimate and cosy gazebos. One of the tents hosted the Beer drinking competition. A huge bowl of ham sausages, imported from Germany & pitchers of beer were placed on the table. The game is to gulp as many sausages and drink as muck as beer at one go.
A visiting chef is specially flown in from Hanover, Germany for the event. The interactive live stations serving sumptuous Schweinebraten (German Roast Pork Leg), Potato Pancake, and Ham Sausages with sauerkraut (German Pickled cabbage) add to the bon homie. Also part of the event is a all with German products like Dressings, sauces, pickled vegetables, tit-bits, snacks and candy for sale. The bread counter has nine varieties of German Breads.
In starters, I chose Smok Huhner Salad (Smoked Chicken Salad) and Eier Salad (Egg Salad) Its light and tasty. The Chef recommended Gebacken Blumenkohl (Baked Cauliflower), the batter is prepared in Beer gravy & deep fried and served with Potato wafers. It’s light with no spices and a hint of beer. Next is Pan-fried Potato Pancake, a delicacy which can be combined with any dressing - sweet, spicy or even cheese. I found it delectable with a sip of beer, then tasted a slice of Schweinebraten (German Roast Pork Leg) served with rich beer gravy and seasoning to taste.
Main course began with a bowl of clear Ham Soup, which is nutritious & instantly energizing.And followed up with Kanchan Pulao alongside lanm gulasch (lamb stew), Gefuellte tomaten mit gemuse (stuffed tomato with vegetables), and uberbacken grune bohnen (French beans with bread crumb). The lamb stew is juicy and deliciously flavored. The stuffed tomato is excellent and just melts in the mouth.
Out of a dozen enticing desserts, I finished my meal on a sweet note with Strawberry Roulade, Orange Cheesecake and Apple Strudel with a scoop of Vanilla ice-cream, all of which tasted great. Being a dessert lover, I only wished I had space to try the others as well.
The buffet inclusive of a pint beer is priced at Rs799/= per head.
