Story:

My daughter strongly recommended this book and said with mischief in her eyes. Please go for this book..its amazingly good. When you reach at the end. Read carefully and discuss with me.”So I started this book with great enthusiasm and found hard to keep it aside even for a moment.Yann Martel..man booker award winner for this book has proved himself a great story teller.

The story is about Piscine Molitor Patel, self-christened as Pi.Pi Patel is an earnest young man in Pondicherry, a tiny area in southern India, whose father owns a zoo in Podicherry. Growing up in the zoo, Pi learns a lot about animals.Pi is ardent follower of God and goes for the worship of ‘Allah’(Islam), ‘Jesus’ and ‘Bhagwan’(Hindu God), He believes in one God.

In unusual circumstances Pi and his family has to leave India for Canada. The zoo is closing and the animals are being sent to zoos all around the world. The family and many of the animals board a Japanese cargo ship for their passage to Canada, which sank. The only surviver Pi is left in a lifeboat with a zebra, a hyena, an orangutan, and a 450 pound Bengal tiger named Richard Parker.Pi is alive to see the horrified battle of survival between the animals finally just the tiger and Pi are left in the boat. How does he survive his 227 days with a predator.. He manages to store rain water and inspite of being strictly vegetarian he is forced to live on raw meat of fishes turtles etc, that too is insufficient because he has to give tiger’s share before satisfying his own hunger needs ..more in fear of not becoming prey of tiger.Pi is incessantly living in despair. He is victim of boredom too..

In his voyage he lands up in canivorus iseland..unbelievable situation..where tree can eat living being alive. The most interesting part of this book is its end..where author dazzles you with a parallel story. But He could prove that this is the matter of your belief in God.After finishing this novel you are forced to ponder..You may want to discuss it with other affable reader but you will find the same confused look on their faces. That may be the sole pupose of this book. A book to make you feel completely baffled, I must say. .
