I wanted to bring to your notice a practice that Videocon Liberty is doing. I bought a Ford Ecosport in 2014 and was advised by the Ford dealership to take Liberty Videocon Policy for Insurance which I did with Zero Deprecation Add On.


I did not make any claims in the fist year, they sent me a renewal notice promptly one month before expiry last year. I renewed the policy with them with the Same Add of Zero Depreciation and Consumables this time. During 2015 to 2016 I made 2 claims. First one where the rear was damaged where the cost was around 20000/- out which I paid some 2000+. The second claim was just a door repaint as someone had scratched the door.


My problem started when I did not receive any letter from the company to renew the policy. I called the company call center about 10 days before the expiry and asked for a quotation. They took my policy number and to my surprise informed me that they cannot offer me a comprehensive policy and asked me to contact the local branch. When I contacted the Local Branch on the phone, first there was no one to answer or give me quotation.


On calling them the second time I spoke to a Manager and he told me I will receive  a call from someone. Someone called me after couple of hours and told me they will give me the best possible quote. I told the person on the phone that the call center had refused to issue a policy and asked for the reason. He asked me whether I had made any claim in the year to which I informed that I had made 2 claims and asked why should it make a difference. He put me on hold for sometime and told me that they can give me a normal comprehensive policy without any add ons. I told the person why is that for which he did not have an answer. I told them I rather take a policy from some other company with zero depreciation. He promptly said ok and hung up.


My issue is do insurance company just expect us to keep paying the premium and not make any claims? How can they refuse to issue a policy or the add on cover because I have made a claim? And as per rules if I drop the zero depreciation cover I cannot get it again, in spite of knowing this why did the company refuse the policy and the add on?


Also to inform you I made the repairs and claimed the policy at Ford Service Center and not anywhere outside. I want to understand why the company refused service on the grounds that I made claim? This was okay because this was car insurance, what if it would have been health insurance. This kind of precedent has to be stopped.


I have already taken the Car Insurance from an another company. I hope they also do not do the same thing if god forbid I have to make any claims!
