What happens when you are simply not able utilize the inherent ability of your brain to churn out some of the most essential, impromptu lies? ‘Liar Liar’ is a funny take on such a scary hypothetical situation. When it comes to comedy; who else can do it better than Jim Carrey who is constantly being acknowledged as the ‘funniest man alive’! And the result is a truly hilarious comedy, which is an absolute treat to watch!

Story:

Fletcher Reede (Jim Carrey) is essentially a liar, err, I mean a lawyer. As a perfect lying machine, he known by his colleagues as the man who can save any case. Until his son Max innocently makes a birthday wish that his father would stop lying for a day.

The wish comes true, and so begins, Reede’s nightmarish day, the day of the trial of his client Mrs.Cole whose entire defense is false. He has to win the case and impress his seniors who are there monitoring him. On the other side, in his personal life, he has to stop his wife Audrey from walking out of his life.

But to his utter horror, he suddenly cannot stop himself from yelling the bitter truth to the world. Right from simple events like accepting that he was one who farted in the elevator, to important events like badgering his own witness, he simply cannot get a lie out of his mouth. This weird personal problem and his pathetic attempts to prevent the truth from bursting out of his mouth is an absolute treat to watch.

Performances:

Jim Carrey’s extra ordinary ability to bring out some of the rawest expression possible on the human face is amazing. The way he yells the truth like a mad man and then shrinks back in horror unable to believe what he had just said, is simply too good. The drastic changes in his face and his voice and the interesting effect it all gives to the otherwise normal dialogues are some of the most innovative acting techniques ever used by an actor.

The best according to me is when the Jim yells at the Judge, ‘I hold myself in contempt! Why should you be any different?’ His facial expression is just excellent in that scene.

The physical comedy part of it was also funny, but it’s sort of not pleasant to watch, as one gets too worried that the actor would have got hurt trying to do it. The other characters provide the required support to this complete one man show, the sort of show which only Jim Carrey can get away with.

Script:

It is sort of a script that was written primarily for Jim Carrey. Some of the funniest possible quips at the most appropriate places, coupled by Jim’s unique sense of timing contribute to the satire. It is a right mix of the different ingredients that make an evergreen comedy movie. At each watch, you discover more and more funny aspects of the movie that would not have been evident at the first watch. Almost every dialogue has a hint of satire in it, which comes to life through the typical ‘Jim Carreyism’.

Memorable dialogues:

If you had seen the movie, some of these dialogues can bring a quick chuckle and a big grin back to your face.

Reede:Mr. Falk, would I be accurate, if I described your relationship with Mrs. Cole as totally professional? I object, Your Honor, and I move to strike!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------

Dana (Mr. Cole’s lawyer):He's badgering the witness!

Judge Stevens: It's his witness!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------

Reede:Your honor, I object!

Judge:Why?

Reede: Because it's devastating to my case!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------

Police Officer: I found him like this in the bathroom, your honor. Somebody beat the hell out of him!

Judge:Who did this?

Reede: A mad man, your honor, a desperate fool at the end of his pitiful rope.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------

Judge Stevens: It is only out of sheer morbid curiosity that I am allowing this freak show to continue.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------

Conclusion: You had missed a lot of fun, had you not watched this one yet!
