We saw one of the huge hoardings of Leo Continental on Paradise bridge, which claimed to rpovide LAVISH buffet lunch at Rs 175. It was near my office and I had bought a new car. So I took my colleagues for a treat there.
As soon as we entered, I was surprised to see that the buffet was all spread but there no other customers except a small group of old ladies. It was already 1.30 and you would expect any good restaurant in Hyderarabd to be crowded at that time.
Seating arrangements were OK and we quietly took our seats. AC was a good relief from the summer sun. We waited for someone to come and ask us whether we want to go for the buffet or a-la-carte. It happenend, only after fifteen minutes of waiting. We said we will go for the buffet and asked the waiter to serve the soups.
Soup was good. It wasn't very spicy, so my Hyderabadi frinds didn't like it much. But the flavor was good. The non-veg starter was ok, but the veg starters were hard and tasteless. When we took the main course, we realized that there wasn't much variety. Also, the curries were not as good as the soup. As the food wasn't great, our attention fell on other things.
We noticed that the bread basket and the wrapping cloth in it llooked dirty. The cutlery was pretty ordinary. The ice-cream bowls looked very cheap and old. No dessert was particularly good, and one of them, Mung Dal Halwa, was stale! The worst part was service. Nobody to clear the plates. Nobody to serve water. Nobody to ask if we needed anything else. Including service tax and VAT, the buffet cost me Rs 200 per head. I have been to Ohri's and Basera buffet for similar price, but Leo was not even close to them. This is one of my worst experiences of dining in a restaurant.
