The Legion Y720 might have been a long time coming, but it looks set to make a big first impression: It's got all the Intel- and Nvidia-provided power you need for VR, gamer-pleasing features like a built-in wireles adapter for an Xbox One controler, and a backlit keyboard for anyone that insists on turning their desktop into an all-night rave.

Now to the Lenovo Legion Y720 - the core components: I7-7700HQ at 2.8ghz( Kaby Lake, 4 core 8 thread), 16gb DDR4 @ 2400mhz, GTX 1060 6GB, and a 500gb NVME PCIE SSD( not sure make any model but I think it's a Samsung), the panel is a 1080p full hd IPS @ 60hz.

Other features: It has a built in Xbox controller connection, so you don't have to buy the stupid dongle for 30$( the dongle is horrifyingly large as well.) It has a back lit keyboard, several different lighting patterns and options, built in camera & mic, some really high quality sound output( Dolby Atmos), and a thunderbolt.

The Legion is also one of the first laptops we've seen with built-in Dolby Atmos surround sound. Lenovo reckons it's the first in the world with the tech, but until it actually goes on sale, there's still time for another company to swoop in and steal first place.

Either way, it's supposed to produce precisely-pinpointed surround sound from just two speakers.

It was difficult to test out properly in a trade show enviTestingronyent, but if you’re going to be holed up in a hotel room with only this laptop as entertainment, it should be able to service your gaming, movie and music needs.

First impression out of the box - Looks very clean and nice. It's not a gigantic behemoth, it's a larger laptop but it doesn't look ridiculous like some of those you have probably seen that I would be embarrassed to pull out in a Starbucks. Mostly matte black with some crimson detail work, really impressive. Not gaudy. Keyboard has a nice key-feel to it, easy to type on and game with. Another reviewer I read used the word chiclet that is a good word for the keys. It has the normal stickers applied, I took mine off and it looks a lot cleaner.( The intel, gtx, and the Lenovo sticker are all on the keyboard)

After setup and windows update: I am happy to report the bloatware and garbage preinstalled software is not that bad. That evil plague McCaffee is present, unfortunately. Just spend a few minutes turning off as much of that stuff as you can you'll end up with a relatively clean desktop. The onboard Lenovo software is called Lenovo Nerve Sense - it allows you to setup and alter the keyboard colors and back light, has an extreme cooling profile to power up your fans, some sound features, and a network priority feature that purports to prioritize games being played for bandwidth purposes I presume.

I tried the Y720 with a 4K display, which looks absolutely stunning up close. The keyboard felt great to type on, too, but I'm not convinced the multicolour backlighting is worth aishwaryasingh23ing extra for.

Whether you’ve got a VR headset or not, though, chances are you’re going to want to play some games using a gamepad, and this is where the Legion Y720 has you covered as well.

The built-in Xbox One wireless receiver lets you use up to four of the console’s controllers at once, without having a mess of wires trailing from players to laptop. We love the Xbox One controller for gaming, especially in its Elite form, and expect plenty of Legion owners to make the most of this( still pretty unique) feature.

Lenovo Legion has a really nice, higher-end gaming laptop that should be very competitive in this market. There are a lot out there trying to rip you off for sub-par hardware, this aint that. It's good performance for a fair price.
