LEGALLY BLONDE - RED WHITE AND BLONDE
When I wrote the review of Legally Blonde (god it seems eons ago when I wrote that), I had clearly ended it with the statement ''Eagerly waiting for Legally Blonde - Red White and Blonde''.
Well so meri pyaari junta (my dear public) here it is.
Rarely are movies based on girlie subjects a success story in a male dominant country like India (no offense to all you MCPs), but Legally Blonde broke all laid down rules and did go on to becoming one of the biggest grossers of all times. Another rarity (i hope I got the spelling of that correct) is the success of sequels to popular movies. Again our favourite blonde lawyer went on to break this rule as well. Not that I am complaining though. On the other hand I am really happy.
Anyways getting down to the movie , its begining was really unique. It all starts with Elle's (the protagonist) friends going through a scrapbook that they have made as a gift for Elle (Reese Witherspoon), and thus taking us through a brief tour of Legally Blonde part one. Kudos for a nice idea of a recap.
Well for those of you looking for a real good storyline may be really turned off by the way the movie starts. Elle wants to get married and wants to invite her pet chihuahua's parents to the wedding (full points for originality though). Now her dog's mother is searched for, located and is found to be imprisoned at a cosmetic company's testing facility. Now let me not fail to mention that the person hired to find the poor canine's mother by our heroine in pink is supposedly the biggest detective in the whole of manhattan (or was it miami ??? guess my memory's failing me quite a bit).
Detective : Let me get this correct, You want me to conduct a biological parent search through all canines , for your dog's mother, so you can invite her to your wedding ?
Elle : Well detective you see I am getting married this fall and I need to get the RSVP correct so I must have the correct location of the mother of the one friend who has stood by me for all tough times. Bruiser's father might be a little difficult considering their mating habits , you know dogs, but yes detective I am serious.
Well audience that must have given you quite a bit of a fair idea how the whole thing proceeds. Getting back to the thread of the story, once the dog is found to be imprisoned at the testing facility of versace, Elle is quite delighted coz she is sure that she would be able to get the dog's mother outta there as she is the proud owner of a ''special versace double platinum vvip guard issued only to those who have shopped for versace products in 5 continents''. At least thats how Elle describes it to this rotund black female guard at the testing facility (dunno how much fact there's there). Anyways once she finds that her dog's mom is imprisoned for testing she embarks on the journey to free the dog and decides to also change the law and enforce a ban on chemical testing on animals.
So where does she take her crusade ? To the powerhouse of america, Washington D.C. Now when she is driving down from Bel Aire to Washington D.C. , this song is awesome and describes her attitude aptly. The song goes like ''If there's a key to state of joy then I'll find it, There was never a doubt that I would lala lala lala....'' Now guys I havent used the lala lala as a filler for not knowing the words. These are actually part of the song. Anyways once she enters Washington D.C. dressed like the fourth of july complete with a striped skirt and a star spangled jacket etc, there comes the matter of getting dressed correctly for her first day at office appropriately . This scene is nice. She goes through and rejects various attires with comments like ''Too Jacky'', ''Too Hillary'', ''Too Monica''. And in the end sticks to her signature color pink. Now this scene is awesome.
Imagine Elle Woods in a hot pink jacket, hot pink miniskirt, white high boots, hot pink handbag and a smart cylndrical hot pink hat walking up the big staircase of Capitol Hill Office while all around her there are people coming down and up dressed only in black. She leaves in her wake , a massive group of people looking at her agape too aghast to move or even reply when randomly keeps saying hi or complementing someone on their briefcase.
Cut to the office and her entrance amongst a group of hostile co-workers especially this black female lawyer named Grace who bosses everyone around as the Chief of Staff of the office. But enter Elle, and things are bound to change. After Elle enters the office she brings about some changes most prominent of which are her own work area looking like a hot pink barbie doll set in the middle of a dark black graveyard which is how one could describe the rest of the lawyers office. And then Elle sets out to change the law. How she does it is all the rest of the movie is about. In the course of the movie she discovers that her dog Bruiser is gay and is in love with this big boxer dog of the male sex which belongs to a senator who helps Elle out quite a lot (after coming over the shock that his own dog whom he prizes as a stallion, is gay).
But then behind Elle's back, her own boss pulls the carpet form under her feet for reasons best watch the movie for. Tragidy strikes but Elle refuses to give up and then activates her Delta Nu network. Now this network consists all the females who have lived in the past at the Delta Nu sorority (some kind of a dormitory or hostel if you ask me where at a time a whole class full of females live together and have formed a network of their own). She activates the network and the next day, Washington is invaded at 08:00 hours by all the pet loving young girls in the whole of america. Now this scene is worth watching. Its awesome the way millions of girls with their pets flood Washington D.C.
Eventually Elle gets a chance to talk to both houses of parliament and she throws away her dog's speech and then just talks to them about the meaning of being americans, to be a part of the land of the free, tells them to wake up and talk their minds, and speak up. Dont be afraid, you all are beautiful, speak up. This part of the movie is awesome and is quite moving as well.
The soundtrack of the movie is realllllly gooooooooood. Most of the characters from movie one whom we all loved have been brought here again like Elle's two best friends, Elle's manicurist friend (we know her better as Stifler's mom from American Pie movie series), Elle's boyfriend Emett. The rest of the characters are all new but equally lovable. Story is also good and the whole feelgood attitude of the movie really makes you feel good. This is another good movie that I have now added to my ever-growing collection. Now people do go out and watch this movie. Get the vcd from where I dont care but do watch it. You guys are all the best people I've known through mouthshut and you all really deserve this. You should watch it coz you all are the most beautiful people in the world.
