DRIVING FAST AND BEING ROAD EFFICIENT

I dont intend to give you lectures on WHY YOU SHOULD DRIVE SAFE. I want to tell you a little about driving efficiently(not fuel efficient).


RAW MATERIALS(and HOW TO GET THEM)




  1. Driving License - Get a genuine license. Very important. A person posessing a license when gets involved in an accident is at a better place than one without it.




  2. Driving Experience - You should drive one car for atleast 6 months before trying any stunt or being the fast driver. The recommended time is 1 year. By this you would know about the car and its Pros and Cons.




  3. A place(for some short experiments) that is devoid of traffic.






Things to learn during the period:


I. GET AND IDEA OF THE CAR'S SIZE - This is important if you want to squeeze in and out of slow traffic without getting a dent or any other damage. T


II. Engine power - Get the idea of the power available from the engine. I dont mean a number. I mean that you should know exactly how the car would behave in a given gear and engine speed(NOTIFIED BY THE ENGINE SOUND AND THE TACHOMETER). Find an empty place(to experiment car driving) Spend time and figure how can you do a 0 to 60 in the least time.


Example, 0-40 in 1st gear then 40 to 60 in 2nd gear would be fast for a Maruti 800.


0-60 in 1st gear would be good enough for larger cars.


Its advicable to keep your car at high revs. This is because, in a time of emergency the car would start decelerating as soon as you get your feet off the accelerator(PROVIDED THE CLUTCH IS NOT PRESSED AT ALL). Then you can slam the brakes. This is engine braking.


Get a Zen. Put into 1st gear. Raise it for 10seconds. Then take your feet off the pedal(without pressing the clutch) and you will know what is engine braking.


III. CAR'S RESPONSE TO STEERING. Find sand and pour into the ground. Drive into the sand at a good speed(40+) and make the steering turn there. The cars usually turn less than they should due to the lack of grip on sand. Water cud be good enough for this purpose. Repeat the process at same speeds. If the grip is very low  I.E. the car skids differently at different times, I'd advice a tyre change to broader ones. Consult a mechanic for that. This would lessen the acceleration but it is Control that one should care more when driving fast responsibly. Power is nothing without control.


To drive fast, you should concentrate on maneuvering the car out of trouble than applying the brakes. Brakes should be applied after turning out.


IV. Brakes - If you want to drive fast, you have stop fast too. But when driving fast, first get ur feet off the pedal without pressing the clutch and drive out of the trouble. Then brake.


TECHNIQUES:


1. CRUSING - Keep and eye on everything. Keep surverying the road. Never look at one spot for long. Look ahead and to the right and left for any thing that is moving. Be very very observant. BE PATIENT TOO.BE ULTRA COOL.LIFE IS NO SPECIAL EFFECT MOVIE.THERE IS NO PLACE ON EARTH FOR HOT TEMPERED PEOPLE.


2. OVERTAKING(on a road without divider) - Take to the right(ok.sometimes we need to overtake from left side). Check for oncoming vehicles. If there is one, see how far is it and how fast is it. Is the road broad enough for three vehicles side by side. Sometimes, when you peep out to see the traffic, the oncoming vehicles may flash its headlights. This means that the vehicles is asking you not to overtake. Dont overtake.


Once decided, do that. If you decide not to overtake, DONT EVER DARE TO OVERTAKE. WAIT UNTIL THE NEXT CHANCE.


If you decide to overtake, do that as fast as you can. Flash the dipper to the oncoming traffic. Look for a spot on your planned path for overtake. This spot would be where you should drive into if extreme conditions appear.(Such as when the vehicle you want to overtake turns towards you and you dont have the option to brake and get behind it; Or when the oncoming vehicle becomes too fast). Dont waste time. Never wonder. This creates a PUASE and the mind cannot function well enough for the right decision. PAUSE is the reason for most of the accidents.


3. OVERTAKING(on a road with divider)- Just the way you overtake on a road without a divider. In your favour, the worry of oncoming vehicle is not there though.


4. HIGH SPEED TURN - High speed turns are NOT RECOMMENDED. Most of the times you dont know what is there after the turn. You should reduce your speed before entering the turn and then accelerate out on the apex of the turn.


5. DECIDING ABOUT PEDESTRIANS AND CYCLIST AND OTHER SLOW MOVING THINGS - Most of them have the fear of death. But many of them dont know how to save themselves! You should plan your path in such a way that should not interfere with theirs. They usually keep left. Give indicators even when changing lanes.


Many times, you may find that a cyclist turns right without notifying. Just honk then, they become alert and then start judging. You would easily find them stopping and allowing you to go.


IMPRESSING THE OPPPOSITE SEX


I dont know whether stylish driving(ACTUALLY IT IS RASH DRIVING AND NOT RECOMMENDED AT ALL) impresses them. But still people do want to do that.


YOU NEED TO KNOW EVERY ASPECT OF THE CAR. YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO FORECAST WHAT WILL HAPPEN WHEN YOU DO SOMETHING. SUCH AS WHAT WUD HAPPEN WHEN THE BRAKE IS APPLIED WITHOUT PRESSING UPON THE CLUTCH


So:




  1. WHEELSPIN: Fairly easy. This is to be done from a stationary position. Keep the car in neutral. Rev up the engine. When it starts to cry. Press the clutch. Engage 1st gear. Let go off the clutch suddenly. Not softly. The sudden jurk to the wheels make them spin even when the car is at rest. And after a second the car moves and creates a fantastic burnout sound.




  2. HANDBRAKE TURN: HIGH SKILLS NEEDED. ON A FAIRLY WIDE ROAD AT A HIGH SPEED TURN THE STEERING WHEEL AS MUCH REQUIRED BUT DO IT FAST AND THEN LIFT THE PARKING BRAKES. THE REAR TYRES STOP SPINNING, AND JUST SKID TURNING TO THE DIRECTION AND CREATE A BURNOUT SOUND
