This time my review is about an interesting Mobile which is an Indian product.Bit of History here, after bidding adieu to my Karbonn A21 which lasted for about 2 years and still good in my niece's hands for playing video games. I switched over to iPhone which was incredible until the death of Mr.Jobs and "God Damn" release of iOS 8 which screwed up the mobile completely irrespective of flashing it several times and unfortunately there is no downgrading options indeed.
So time to switch over to something which I have never tried in mobiles, "Windows" - A world full of bugs, My friend who uses a Lumia informed me that the Windows mobile apps are really lighter than android and iOS works pretty good with minimum hardware configuration, it was interesting when I tested it in a mobile shop as the application was flawless and pretty faster.
The mobile was fully loaded with videos and apps to showcase the functionality, though the mobile has under 512MB RAM it was par or better than an android which had 1GB RAM. So I decided to try my luck with Windows mobile this time.However happened to hear a famous speech by our beloved PM "Mr.Modi" on the need for buying Indian products.
Hence I decided to not to go for LUMIA but any other mobile featuring Windows, Upon exploration came across LAVA IRIS WIN in flipkart, the mobile was fairly priced under 5k with a remarkable configuration with a good user rating, so without a secondary thought I ordered one which reached me in 48 hours, i have been using this mobile for a week now and here is my experience
Hardware : The mobile comes with a 1.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon Quad Core Processor which is used in almost all premium mobiles, along with 1GB of RAM (Better than Lumia), interestingly a "WOW" feature of additional soft leather cover along with a Scratch guard ( roughly saves about 500 Rupees).The touch was above average or par good ( might be because of i am an Ex- iPhone user) and was little less sensitive compared to premium brands.
The headset is a ribbon model compared to a standard cylindrical one and quality is Good compared to my Karbonn. Overall an excellent hardware configuration.
Software : Windows 8.1 is incredible the mobile works like a charm with multi tasking super good with standard games ( Candy crush, temple run, Angry birds, NFS).Also comes up with office loaded which is good for people like me where editing documents in crucial, however i noticed while opening the apps is pretty fast but when you click on play it slogs a while as it tries to connect to internet (where no wifi/ gprs) is enabled, the system takes a long wait to understand that there is no internet.
Which means the sync is not there or the technology needs to improve. Need to mention though, once you start playing the game it is super cool and faster alike my old iPhone.
Music and Videos: Sound quality is not premium but a decent one but definitely not bad as the makers have done a great job for the price we pay. Videos play well but there is no option to drag the loading bars while streaming as we do it in Android / iOS, we have to live with old fashioned Forward / rewind button.
Battery : Definitely 5 stars, comes at least for 1.5 days to 2 days for a normal mobile (10 calls, 1 hour 3G, Standard Edge for all time Whatsapp, 3 hours of music)users as it comes up with 1950MAH Li-Ion battery which is super cool for a mobile under 5000. No overheating noticed so far.
App's and user friendliness : Enough applications are available which is extremely light and faster, no unethical apps Example : there is no software available to cut the Mp3 which is actually illegal considering copy rights. Since its windows definitely user friendly considering navigation through the phone. Internet streaming is average and not as good as iOS.
Camera : Comes with a 5MP rear camera and front VGA camera which may not impress a fantasy freak/ selfie yo's as it provides only a average pictures. But again ok for skype call for family not official web conf as it has a old VGA camera front facing.
Improvement areas :
1)Should release a premium version with gorilla glass, better quality camera and better stylish finish.
2)Microsoft has done a good job with windows 8.1 but more basic improvements required for a super cool usage.
3)Lava should provide good after sale service to the users as Indian brands are VERY bad in customer service.
Final Sum up: Definitely a steal deal for 5000 rupees to a person who wish to explore new things, if you are a perfectionist and precision is your goal may be give it a second thought or wait for some more time until next version is released.
