Though the writing of Mary Stewart is not very gripping, the Last Enchantment was quite interesting. It was an engaging read indeed.
The story is set in the 5th century and revolves around the Arthurian Legend. The Arthurian legend is related to King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. The legend is quite known but the author has used a different formula to present it. She has shown the Arthurian legend in a totally new light. Merlin is shown very humanistic with feelings and emotions just like any other humans. The conventional wizard like qualities is nowhere to be found in Merlin. The story then proceeds with a narrative from Merlin?s point of view. Thus, it makes an extremely captivating story, which has been treated quite differently.
Merlin gives his advice to King Arthur to protect his throne. He warns him of the perils of kinship. It is a story of fantasy that is packed in exciting tale.
