A different venture for Farhan Akhtar

When I first came to know that this movie is by Farhan akhtar the same guy who made one of my favorite movies ''Dil Chahta Hai'' I thought it was going to be something similar but this was totally different.

The story goes like this that there's a guy who's confused about what to do in his life played by hrithik roshan and I guess that's a dilemma that many people face, in recognizing what you want to do, what your parents want you to do, where you can succeed and where not.So he goes to a military academy and after a few days of hardship runs away. But when his girlfriend romila played by preity zinta breaks up due to this act and when his father says he's a no good person, he becomes a determined man with a goal and comes back to the academy. Soon after, the war at Kargil starts and there he gets the change to prove his mettle by completing a dangerous mission and in the end getting his girlfriend back too.

Performances by the actors are good. Hrithik Roshan does a good job but I dont think it is anything award worthy as some other guys were saying but some scenes where he brings on his face the emotional turmoil he goes through at different phases is great. Preity Zinta does a fine job here , it wasn't a role as challenging as Hrithik's but she does it fine.

I agree with the other readers that Amitabh couldve done off without doing this role and any other actor could've done this but as always whatever role you give him he does justice to it. After seeing Boman irani I went through the urge to shout ''Mamooo'' in the cinema hehe but resisted it.He and other supporting actors do a good job as well.

I would like to tell the readers that I am a Paki living here in Australia and I really love indian movies as all the people back home in Pakistan. I was quite happy to see ''Main hoon na'' because I think it was the first movie that showed something about Indi-Pak friendship. Although this movie is not totally anti-Pakistan but I think on a few occassions the director strays away from the main theme of the movie which is actually to show how a confused guy finds himself and trasforms in to a different person. The viewer sometimes thinks that it's a war movie. I think there should be more movies that go towards friendship between the two countries rather than war. I'm not saying I didn't like this movie due to that , it was quite enjoyable but more movies need to be made on peace rather than war specially considering the present situation.

The climax scene of the movie has been brilliantly shot and I would like to tell people who have'nt seen the movie yet to look out for that. There are a few touching moments in the movie as well specially where Hrithik calls up his father before the mission.

As far as the music goes, there are basically are 3 regular songs Aggar mai kahon, mai aisa kyon hoon and a sad song , the rest of em basically relate to the soldiers going at war. I liked mai aisa kyon hoon partly because of hrithiks dance in it and agar mai kahoon has got different music , it sounds a little bit japanese hehe but it's good.

Finally , yeah I would recommend people to go check out the movie but don't go to see the movie with Dil Chahta hai in your mind. This is a completely different movie which hasn't got that many light moments as Dil Chahta hai. The action scenes are the highlight of the movie as they have been shot very well. You'll enjoy the movie but it's not superhit stuff.
