Lajja was a wonderful serial. Although I do not remember the cast now but the character played by the daughter-in-law of the house was well played.
The story in short is as follows:-
The family comprises of Grandfather - Grandmother, their only son who is happily married with 2 sons and a daughter. There is a servant who has grown with the family, in fact she is considered to be a part of the family. She is the pet of the grandparents. The elder son gets married to a very pretty looking retired judge's daughter. A police officer's family is very close to the 2nd generation of the family.
The family is happily united till one day - the second son along with a friend and the police officer's son get drunk and rape the servant girl one by one and then through her out of the window. The daughter-in-law who is pregnant with their first child witnesses this incident and has a miscarriage because of the shock.
The serial progresses with the battle between truth and family. The daughter-in-law supports the rape victim and fights against the family which includes her husband too. As the saying goes ''TRUTH ALWAYS PREVAIL'', she wins the case and the serial ends with her in-laws who were always supporting their son asking for forgiveness from the servant and daughter-in-law. But in this entire battle the once joyful & united family breaks apart with the grandparents dying of heart-attack and the son paying the dues of his misdeed.
The serial was beautifully projected and all the characters played their part very well.
