Some facts you should know before watching the film Lage Raho Munna Bhai(LRMB) - This film is NOT A SEQUEL to Munnabhai MBBS, which released in 2003. This has Munnabhai(Murali Prasad Sharma)(Sanjay Dutt) and Circuit(Sarkeshwar)(Arshad Warsi) in different roles altogether. In Munnabhai MBBS, both Munnabhai and Circuit, got married at the end and even had children. This time, the film starts in a new note altogether. No Dr.J.Asthana and no Dr.Suman, instead they are replaced by Lucky Singh(Boman Irani) and Janvi(Vidya Balan).
Story -
The film LRMB starts with Munnabhai falling in love with Janvi, a Radio Jockey(RJ) with her voice and her style of saying "Goog Morning Mumbai". One day, Munnabhai, gets to know about a quiz on Mahatma Gandhi and the winner of the quiz, will get a chance to meet Janvi and come on her show. Munnabhai, decides to win it and with the help of Circuit, calls in some History Professors to help him in winning the quiz. Munnabhai, wins the quiz and sets off to meet Janvi and come on her show, but is totally confused about what should he speak on radio. Munnabhai and Circuit, arrange a emergency meeting at the toilet and there Circuit, tells Munnabhai some words of pure Hindi like to use "Durrgati ho gai" in place of "Watt lag gai". Munnabhai, in total confusion at the show tells that all he knew about 2 October(Gandhi Jayanti) was that it was a dry day, but then he says that he is a History Professor and a huge fan of Gandhiji.
On knowing this, Janvi, invites Munnabhai to give a speech about Gandhiji to her family, which happens to be a old-age home by the name of "2nd Innings house". Munnabhai, asks Circuit for help on how to give a speech about Ganghiji and also be prepared for Questions thrown at him ahead. Circuit, takes Munnabhai to a "Mahatma Gandhi Sanghralya" where lot of books written on Mahatma Gandhi are given. Munnabhai, happens to be the 1st reader after many years to read there. Munnabhai, then reads those books continously for over 3 days and later on he begins seeing Mahatma Gandhi in person.(Dilp Prabhavalkar plays the role of Mahatma Gandhi in the movie) Mahatma Gandhi, tells him about his teachings of "Satya and Ahimsa"("Truth and Non-violence") and says to Munnabhai that he will help Munnabhai win Janvi, but Munnabhai will have to do some work for Mahatma Gandhi. Munnabhai, at 1st thinks that he is not Mahatma Gandhi and calls him fancy-dress, but later on he thinks that he is Mahatma Gandhi(Bapu).
On the other hand, in "2nd Innings house", another man comes in and drops his father(Atma Ram) in the old-age home. Now Munnabhai, comes to "2nd Innings house" and gives his speech on Mahatma Gandhi and also answers the questions. Now Munnabhai, feels that Mahatma Gandhi has arrived inside him and begins to work exactly in the way Mahatma gandhi tells him to, on his path of "Truth and Non-Violence". Munnabhai, sees the poor condition of the old and aged in the old-age home and takes it upon himself to bring back the smile on their faces. He helps Atma Ram, by giving him a birthday gift with his son coming in and throwing a huge Birthday party for his father despite dropping his father just few days ago in the old-age home. Munnabhai, helps another man by making 2 lovers meet and getting married after a long gap of 50 years.
Now, Lucky Singh, gets to know about the "2nd Innings house" and gets to know that somebody called Kkhurana(Kulbhushan Kharbanda)(Watch out for that extra "K" in the name) has his eyes on that bungalow for over the last 2 years. Lucky Singh, decides to marry off his daughter Simran(Dia Mirza) to Kkhuranas son Sunny. Kkhurana is a avid believer of Numerology and even adds an extra "K" in from of his name becoming "Kkhurana" from "Khurana" so that his business can grow. He is being befooled by an astrologer Batuk Maharaj(Saurabh Shukla), who tells him that his son and Lucky Singhs daughter cant marry as Lucky Singhs daughter is a Manglik and their marriage would be harmful for the life of Kkhuranas son Sunny. Now Lucky Singh, changes the timings of his daughters birth and on a "jhooth", the entire marriage is built.
Lucky Singh, then decides to take the "2nd Innings house" for himself and sends Munnabhai off to Goa to help the 2 oldies get married and to have an outing with his love interest Janvi, but then he also fools Munnabhais men, Circuit and co into emptying the 2nd innings house. Munnabhai, alongwith Janvi and co, enjoys the stay at Goa, but then they come to know that somebody is emptying their house. Munnabhai, rushes back to Mumbai and gets to know that it was his men only who were emptying the house. Munnabhai and Circuit, get into a fight and now thats where the real film starts with Mahatma gandhi arriving inside Munnabhai and having Munnabhai work on his ways of "Truth and Non-Violence". 1st, Munnabhai, apologises to Circuit and instead of getting into a violent fight with Lucky Singh, he decides to fight against Lucky Singh on Gandhian principles by doing "Gandhigiri" instead of "Bhaigiri" and making Lucky Singh realise his mistake.
Munnabhai, begins his Gandhigiri by setting up a protest in fromt of Lucky Singhs bungalow and sending him flowers with "Get Well Soon" cards put on them. This "Get Well Soon" has a very different and deep meaning in the film and it means to get well in the true sense and adopt truth and non-violence. Munnabhai, also, comes on the "Good Morning Mumbai" show and helps solve peoples problems by his Gandhigiri. The entire Mumbai, becomes a fan of Munnabhai and later on with the help of Mahatma Gandhi, Munnabhai gets enough courage to tell Janvi the truth. Now will Janvi leave him and will Simrans marriage be possible. Watch it in the film to find out from here. Also, Abhishek Bachchan and Jimmy Shergill have special apperances in the movie. And in the end, Kkhurana, stops believing in Numerology and becomes Khurana again.
Overall Description -
LRMB is not just a comedy movie, it is a serious movie made as less complicated as possible and very enetertaining as well. Besides getting on the Gandhian principles of "Truth and Non-Violence" without being a pakao film at all. It shows that normal problems can be solved with Gandhigiri also easily like the scene where - Paan is being spitted outside someones home and the owner of that home cleaning it happily. This makes the other man realise his mistake and he stops spitting pan outside someones home. That shows that normal problems can be easily soolved by Gandhigiri instead of getting into Bhaigiri all the time. This film, helps to awaken the Gandhi inside us.
The film also takes other social issues like old-age home and the condition of the old and aged people. In today, people when young, are suppressed by their parents and when they grow old and aged, they are suppressed by their children and they seem like having no life of their own. When Munnabhai helps in making 2 old lovers meet after 50 years, it shows that everyone has a right to live his life the way he wants to. Also, it takes up the issue of Numerology and "K" effect which is spoiling people by having stretched out names, but they do no difference to the peoples lives. It exposes the fakeness of most Astrologers and how they fool people into getting the money.
