Lagaan means tax. Its all about the fight between farmers and British. This film based upon the village Champanair. This village is fighting from the drought because the rain does not fall on to their farms.
During that time British rules to that village and the surroundings and the farmers are liable to pay tax to them through their crops.
Bhuwan, a villager, was not want to pay tax to them. Once he got chance to the bet prescribed by the captain Rustle to beat him in the game of Cricket.
The farmers doesn't know it but Bhuwan agrees to their bet.
He fight at the end and he wins that battle. Which is incredibly not from the sword but from the bat and ball.
Yes, this is a very interesting film concept by the director Ashutosh Gowarikar.
Here, for the promotion of the film Amir Khan made a tie up with Archies Cards. He stated that in all the cards our film images should be displayed at any part of it. That's the part of marketing. The film was nominated for the Oscar Awards but unfortunately, the marketing strategy fails there and the film doesn't got that award.
But yes, Amitabh Bachchan's voice makes that film a dynamic start and feel like a Kingdom rules there.
Overall it was a nice film and whenever it comes on tv I definitely love to watch again and again.
