Earlier I have been to so many trips, some trips in plane area’s, some to hills, some trips to extreme sandy places, and some to extreme high attitude area’s. Each and every trip have there own experiences which I face, and every trip make me more closer to nature and taught me lots of new things. But there is one special trip which is very much close to my heart and I think it’s not possible for me to do it again (with my bullet), which is my Bike Trip to Khardung La (mostly known by Khadung La Pass).

Couple of year’s back I came in touch with an enthusiastic bullet biker group in Noida. After couple of meetings with those bikers I made a good friendly relation with them. We were 6 bikers including me. With in couple of months we completed some short biking trips including Delhi – Mussorie, Delhi – Kasauni, and with all these short trips we learnt all the biking rules, like how to ride on highways, how to ride without street lights in dark nights, how to ride in two way roads, and what are the basic & advance biking ethics. Well after couple of short rides we all decided to make our dreams real.

Every dedicated, enthusiastic biker in India always has a dream to drive his bike to Khadung La, because this stretch tests every biker’s and his bike’s will power and strengths. We started collecting information about Khadung La i.e. road conditions, weather, route, maps and every basic thing which requires completing the trip. We all done lots of shoping from karol bagh (best market for bullet owners) we buy new tubes, we get changed our old tires with new one’s, puncture kitts, heavy duty ropes to tide up our goods, main highway and himachal pradesh maps, carriers to carry our bags, extra fuel etc. Well after spending a good amount on all these things, as per decided we take 12 days leave from our offices (I only know how I make my manager agree to sanction my leave, so many lies “sorry god”) well at last we started towards Khadung La, till Chandigarh we didn’t face any problem, highway was pretty good.

Our first stop was “sunder nagar” very beautiful place in himachal, it’s just before Manali, actually why we decided to stop in sunder nagar instead of Manali, because my brother lives there and in that way we save some money, rather spending on hotels ;-). Well in 2nd day after noon we reached at Manali, and we spent a whole day there, get our bikes rechecked, because after Manali you won’t find any good service station. We visit near by places, temples and done some sightseeing. On 3rd day we completed our stretch till Keylong, after crossing Keylong there were only Army base camps and nothing. Well our next stop was Pang, after reaching Pang one of my friend feel sick and has some respiratory problem, and then we realize, that now we are on high altitude area. So we decided that he should go back or stay in pang only, till we return back. Well after leaving him in pang (in a HPTD guest house) we rest 5 bikers move fwd towards LEH.

We check in to a resort in LEH and waited for the next morning to get a permit from district magistrate (Actually you require an entry permit from district magistrate). Our Guest house manager guides us towards this process. Well after getting a valid permit, we drop our most of the luggage at resort, fill our tanks with fuel and ride our bikes towards the final stretch … to Kahrdung La. After couple of hour’s ride we were in Khardung La …. And you know guys what…5602 meters of height (18380 fts)… I was feeling on the top of this world. It is highest Motorable road on this planet earth. We the Himalayan range were clearly viewable. There was no vegetation around this place, so that’s why we were feeling little problem while breathing. Only few brave army personals can be seen on this place. After spending an hour we move back to LEH.

After this trip I came to know couple of things:

  1. Our soldiers are the bravest person’s in this world, which are staying in so tough conditions and taking bullets on there chests while we watch TV in air-conditioned rooms.

  2. World is full of Beautiful place, there are lots of thing’s to see, these are endless.

  3. If you want to check your physical strengths then should visit this place once in ur life.

Route: DELHI – CHANDIGARH – MANALI – KEYLONG – PANG - LEH – KHARDUNG LA (2400 Kms)

Best Season: April to October.

Regards,

MJ
