I’m not really sold on this movie.
1.The characters are underdeveloped.
The romance feels forced. Character motivations flip flop in a hurry. J K Simmons is criminally underused.
Emma Stone works like a charm though. She steals every scene she’s in.
2.The plot is paper thin. Something we’ve seen a million times.(Cafe Society, Luck by Chance, etc.)
A sort of a trouble in paradise is forcibly inserted in an attempt to give things a twist.
3.Mia’s acting part is neglected in favor of Seb’s music.
4.All songs except “City of Stars” are uninspired. They come in and go without significantly contributing to the plot. Jazz is good(Whiplash has better Jazz)
There are “moments” in the film that compel you to take notice(The Observatory, I Ran, the first meet, dinner scene)
5.The montage at the climax is the best part of the movie. Gives you the feels.
