And the three songs are - Ek Saathi Aur Bhi Tha, Seemayen Bulayen, and Main Kahin Bhi Rahoon, and I don't know why people, in general, have not much liked the songs of this movie, whereas, I feel, the songs are the best part in the movie. And, I think, they are the best songs of the year 2003. A song is relevant in the pertinence of its https://lyrics. And, this is where the songs of this movie are excellent.

I have heard the long songs of this movie many a time (even now I am hearing them), and have never felt bored. Rather, I have always wished if the song had continued some more. The music is almost perfect to the situation. According to me, this is Anu Malik's best performance till date. I think one need to listen and correlate the songs very carefully to understand the real significance. Let's take each song one by one.

Ek Saathi Aur Bhi Tha

This song comes in the end. And the timing could not have been better. It looks lyricist was asked to write in Kargil, how else could have he thought of such wonderful lyrics, which match scene to scene with the context.

Having won, I am delighted, just about to forget the sacrifice of my other, not so lucky, companions, but then come this song to remind me that your victory is incomplete without the sacrifices of those, who are dead

And, to the audience it leaves a message. The message which says, ''Every contest, whether victory or no victory, leaving blood as it's after mark has to be bad, even if it is inevitable''. When I watched this movie the first time, I left the hall before the song started since I saw other people doing it. Thankfully, I did't do it the second time, and then I realized how foolish I was the first time. Another good lesson - Never follow the herd blindly!

Seemayen Bulayen

I have a girlfriend, I have a mother, I have a wife, and all of them are sad cos I am leaving for the fight with death, ''Seemayen Bulayen'' . And they know I might just not be able to make it, but still they are hopeful, they are hopeful I might return, and so they make an earnest appeal, ''Suno Jaane Waale Lot Ke Aaana..Bhool Na Jaana''

What else could have they done? And what else could have the lyricist and the music director done? I think all the concerned have done full justice to the job.

Nevertheless, the hopefuls' continue, they continue giving reasons thinking something might just work, but then they have at the back of their mind, ''Seemayen Bulayen''. They give in to the bigger reason, and just say ''Tera Saath Hain Mera Mann''. But still they continue, they continue with their reasons and I wish they had continued a little longer, probably the lesser number of soldiers would have died!!!

Main Kahin Bhi Rahoon

And now it's my turn to remember. And I am gonna take fuckin long. Who cares a damn? And I am in full mood today. And therefore the song is as long as 13 minutes. If the audiences empathize with me, they wouldn't mind it at all. Rather, they would feel lucky to have been a privy to my live.

It is no mean task to compose a song of 13 minutes and still produce a work, which would keep the listener enthralled. The master has been able to produce a catching tune, which one doesn't mind humming for hours, a necessity for a long song. He has been able to reproduce a simple idea, one by one, with all the soldiers concerned in a single song, without losing the rhythm anywhere. And, moreover, this song was not supposed to be patriotic.

It was just supposed to be a refreshing moment for each of the soldiers. This song was also supposed to bind all the soldiers in a single knot of longing ness for their loved ones, all expressing the same feeling when it comes to the basics, whatever their ranks or locations. It really doesn't matter! And, I think, this song has been able to do all of it quite well. What if it is a little long?

The Movie

To be very frank, I found this movie wanting in various areas. I have a feeling that Dutta Saheb has faltered somewhere. I don't wanna discuss all the weak points but one. I found using a platform, as pure as remembering the sacrifices of the soldiers, for diplomatic projection of India as very objectionable. I also love my country but then I put the so very special countrymen (the soldiers) over the lesser (and meaner) objectives. There are other better platforms for such things.

However, a word of advice - If you have not seen this movie, go and watch it b4 it goes out of theatres. There is so much to experience in the movie, so much to like and so much to criticize. Do whatever, but definitely don't miss the sincere effort, if nothing else then for the three songs.
