Nice washing machine, has inherent design defects

I have been using this washing machine for the last 3-4 months. I have found no problem with it, except its inherent design defects, like short inlet and outlet hoses, short electrical cord, and lack of castor wheels.

These features have appeared as a result of cost-cutting among companies. Some bright MBA in the company might have suggested, "Hey, why have a 1.5m long inlet and outlet hose, we can save Rs x millions per year if we reduce it to 1m length! Similarly, if we reduce the electrical cord length by 0.5m, we stand to save Rs y million! And, further, if we remove the castor wheels altogether, and give the customers a pseudo-technical reason that it leads to excess vibrations, we can save Rs z million/year! Is that cool or what!"

So the bright MBA gets the changes done and gets a fat raise in excess of x+y+z millions rupees! He leaves the company for greener pastures at a much higher salary soon after!

What the bright but ZCS(zero common sense) MBA does not understand is that it is practically impossible in most homes to locate the washing machine in such a way that its inlet and outlet pipes are near a tap and drain, AND there's a power socket within 1m of the machine! So the householder has to buy a electric cord extender, longer inlet and outlet pipes or she has to lug the machine and move it to near a tap & drain. Now this is not an easy job, I can tell you that!

ALL washing machines of 10+ years back used to have castor wheels for moving them, as far as I know. The reason given nowadays of excess vibration is pure BUNK! My old washing machine had four castor wheels, the machine used to vibrate when spin drying, but it never moved from its place. It was so much more easier to move the machine. Now I have to physically lift the machine! Now our bai does not move the m/c to clean the kitchen floor!

As for the washing machine, I am satisfied with its other features. It has two new(for me) features that I liked: a) the number of rinse cycles can be changed by the user; b) the provision of what they grandly call "waterfall circulation".

I generally like two rinses as one rinse does not take away the soapy feeling entirely. This I could not set in my old machine but I can now.

The water circulation is a feature where a part of the water is pumped back through a plastic mesh filter. This helps to remove the lint, which would otherwise stick to the polyester clothes. I used to face this problem in my old m/c.

It also has a "fuzzy logic" feature - it estimates the wash load by giving the dry clothes a few turns and sets the water level accordingly. Of course, this level setting can be changed manually. It also has a "minutes to finish" countdown display.

Looks-wise, it is quite attractive, with light grey sides and a light pink top, with a glass window.
