I am using RIM for more than a year, I had Reliance Samsung N191 B/W phone earlier and I was quite happy with it. I used it for almost an year and now I started looking for a new phone. Somewhere down the line I thought of switching over to GSM from CDMA. I read many reviews about mobiles and service providers and finally I decided to go for Reliance only.

I wanted to buy a colour screen phone and that too with 65K colours. Reliance launched the new LG RD5130 colour mobile phone on 15th August 2004 and I bought it on 20th August. Today, when I am writing this review, is 29th September. My phone is now 40 days old and I have come to know everything about this phone in these 40 days. I want to share all these things with you.

LG RD5130 is priced at Rs.4999 but I managed to get it for Rs.4750. It comes with a preloaded talk time of Rs.50 with a validity of 10 days. First I want to list out some really good things about this phone.

(1) Bright 65000 Color CSTN display : This is the key feature of this wonderful device. 65K colour display can be found only in cell phones of Rs.7500 and above. So, if you are getting it in just Rs.4999, its really a delight. The resolution of 128x128 also adds to clarity.

(2) Speaker Phone : The speaker in this phone is very clear and loud. It gives absolutely clear voice. I have seen in many phones in which speaker is there just for the sake of being there. But it is very good in this phone.

(3) Intenna - Internal antenna : This feature is not there in most of the CDMA phones. This makes the phone look good and easy to handle.

(4) Phone Book stores up to 300 x 4 entries : You can store upto 1200 phone numbers and in my opinion it is enough for anybody.

(5) Profiles : Profiles let you set your phone's sound settings (Ring type, Ring tone, Ringer volume, Earpiece volume, Message alert and Key volume) to your current environment. There are 6 Profiles: Vibrate only, Silent, General, Outdoor, Headset, Carkit. The settings in each Profile can be modified (except for Vibrate only). Profiles can be renamed (except Vibrate only, Headset and Carkit).

(6) Good and Fast Software : The software is really fast and quick. I think it is the best in CDMA category.

(7) Good Voice Reception and Network : In my opinion this is the best handset as far as voice reception and network is concerned. The voice quality is really good even where GSM networks don?t work. I have not experienced any call drops or voice breakups yet and I am sure I will not experience many.

There are many common features also that you can find in most of phones like R-World, Organiser, PC Sync, R-Connect and so on.

This is all about the good things, now is the turn of some shortcomings which are also common in all the Reliance handsets:

(1) Limited Multimedia Content : You can not download wallpapers or ringtones from anywhere else but you can do so only through RWorld which has very limited content. This is common in all the Reliance handsets.

(2) Rubber Keypad : The keypad of this phone is of Rubber, so it might get some wear-tear early. Although I have not faced any problem with it yet, buy I am afraid that keypad's life might be less than average.

(3) No indication after full recharge : I can't understand why there is no indicator for battery recharging. After full charge, there is neither any beep nor any other type of indication. But one thing is sure that the recharging automatically stops after full recharge.

I can write much more on this phone, but I don't want my first ever review to be long and boring.

I must say that in just Rs.4999, this is a really good phone. If you want to go for RIM prepaid, I would advice to go for this handset because in just Rs.1500 more (other B/W handsets are between Rs.2999 and Rs.3499) you are getting many more features and above all the 65K colour screen with a really good resolution.

All in all I am very happy with this handset. I am giving it 4 stars and recommend it to everyone!!!
