LG G3100 is the latest offering from the LG stable to expand its market share in the GSM handset market. It?s basically an entry level color screen phone, and is being promoted in India as ?Friend?. It was launched around December 17,2003 at the Dubai shopping festival, and has made quite a quick entry in India though I have?nt seen any ad for this particular model yet.

There isn?t any link on LG India?s site regarding this model but strangely enough they have the link to download the Data Cable software for ringtones etc. Being a Nokia 3310 user for the past 2 years (It took quite a toll on my jeans pockets), I was looking for a good entry level color screen model. I had 2 options Samsung C100 or Nokia 3100.

Samsung seemed 2 b the choice as it had a good 65k color screen and it was lighter on pocket, at 6900 without bill or 7400 with bill. I feel Nokia 3100 with 4096 colors and plasticky look& feel is overpriced by Rs 1500+, though it has MMS which C100 does?nt offer.

The dealer from whom I eventually purchased introduced the LG G3100 as ?Aaj hi aaya hai?????4 set bik bhi gaye hain? (around 30th jan). Now some basic features about the phone: Model: LG G3100 Weight:85 grams 40 Poly Sound/EMS/Color LCD 128*96 pixels 4096 colors Dual Band Downloadable EMS/Wallpaper/Ringtones Voice Dialing etc The phone looks good??.small n sleek??..the screen area is totally black like a black hole??.and yes very light??..

The phone has a good Operating System which I believe follows the pattern of most Nokia phones??.its easy to navigate with shortcuts and has support for profiles etc?? Though there are some shortcomings like??.SMS don?t have the option send to many ???.one has to send it one by one?? Though there are some unique features like graphical world time??..phone has extensive support for multiparty conferencing but I haven?t tested that??? Its GPRS enabled with WAP 1.2.1 browser??.. PC Sync is supported via Datacable????.T9 predictive input is there Scheduler supports only 20 entries ( for a forgetful person like me) Wallpapers are good??..and the brightness of the screen is adjustable but its hard to read it in bright sunlight which is the case with most of the color phones?. The vibrator is also good considering the size and weight of the phone??

The battery (Lithium) lasts easily for 2.5 -3 days depending on the talk time??? It takes about 2 hours to reacharge the battery. Lastly the phone does?nt support MMS Now the pricing: The Box says the MRP as Rs 10,000 but I got it for Rs 7500 with bill. Handsfree kit is included with the box????so the pricing is quite good with all its features???It has all the features of Nokia 3100 except the MMS and therefore is quite a good package deal considering its looks, features, free handsfree kit and savings of about Rs 1700.

The phone will have direct competition from C-100 which is strong on its 65k color screen but is a bit too long in design. But I got what I wanted ? A good entry level color handset.
