Value for Money:

Last week I plan to buy a decent mobile phone for one of my family member. I was looking for phone which has expandable memory, camera was not my requirement as the phone will be used only to listen songs. I considered two phones Moto Yuva W230 and LG KG195. Finally I decided to put my money on LG.

Here goes my observations:

Design:

Phone looks cool, light, very sturdy and slim design. It doesn't give any creaking sound when little pressure applied. Keypad is also desined is such a way that it won't allow dust to go inside accept the thin gap around 4 way centre pad. You can say its a dust resistant kind of keypad. It has a hotkey for camera on right side which is cool and handy. It also has a mini USB and microSD card slot on right side. They are covered with soft plastic (typically LG/Samsung type). Its bit inconvenient though to remove cover everytime you charge phone. Another inconvenient thing is its keypad, its bit hard and buttons are very close to each other. Bad for fast typing.

Features:

In this department I can say its fully loaded. A very good small display, Bluetooth 1.1 with A2DP, JAVA, nicely loaded VGA camera, upto 1 Gb expandable memory (no free memory included though), inbuilt memory of 60 MB, very loud builtin speaker, good FM radio and music player which can be minimised. A miniUSB provided for charging/Data/headphone.

My Experiences:

The first thing which impressed me was its 262k TFT screen, although little small but colour saturation is very good. Pixels blocks are not visible. Phone doesn't support GIF files above 100 KB. Animation is little on slower side. Camera has endless list of features, even more than any SE Cybershot. Just keep pressing camera hotkey for 3 sec and it starts. Camera is very fast n takes no time to boot or while taking pics. Camera pictures looks good on mobile screen. It takes good pics even in low light. No date n time stamp available. In video mode one interesting feature is there, you can choose the video format from 3gp or mp4.

OS of the phone is quiet good while comparing it with Nokia and SE. Better than Moto and Samsung. Very quick and navigation is very easy any novice user can use it. All menu and submenus has its own number so you can direcly go to any function by typing number on keypad. I like the hotswap feature. It shows memory card logo on top constantly while card is inside.

Music player plays music from card or from phone memory but one at a time. It can't sync songs stored on both memories. Not a big minus. You can't fast forward songs only Next or Previous. It has equiliser which has predefined settings like Rock/Pop/Bass etc. Treble setting is the loudest one. It has very capable speaker which is loud enough when incoming call comes but while listening to music player it is not so loud. Can't hear while in bus or train. Good set of stereo headphone is provided though. FM reception is very loud n clear. Also when you switch on loud speaker to listen to FM, surprisingly loudspeaker and headphone both works at a time. Full marks.

GPRS is let down, no settings are available with service provider. You need to configure it manually by settings taken from service provider's site. Builtin WAP browser is not good,

fonts and other things looks bad and slow too. Okay for novice user. Opera can't work as it

doesn't detect GPRS settings.

JAVA applications takes too much time to install. although there are many games and applications comes loaded from LG. But I won't recomend this phone if you are going to use it for third party applications.

Phone has World Clock, Calculator, Calender, Organiser and other applications like BMI Calculator, Menstruation Calender etc comes loaded with it. Good for female users.

Battery of this phone is another thing which impressed me. As it is LG, I wasn't expecting

anything from its battery but it performed well on very first charge. Not in the class of Nokia or SE but decent enough for 2 days with normal use.

Final Words:

If you are a novice user or on tight budget, I recomend this phone. Phone rings very loudly on incoming call and ring quality is good at same time.

A very good fully loaded phone. I give it 7/10.

Thanks.

Bimal
