Value for Money:

Due to the invention of the Integrated Circuit (IC...also commonly known as the microchip or chip ), today we are in the Nanotechnology era. We have all seen that the IC has performed a miracle by making it possible to shrink large electronic items to very very small size.

The first HUGE Hard Disk developed by IBM in 1920s weighed more than 1000 kilos and was as HUGE as a multi-storey building. But today, Laptops, PCs, MP3 Players have all become handy devices that cost less and run on small batteries. They say Intel P4 Processor has billions of transistors embedded inside it. What a revolution !

But one electronic gadget that has overtaken others is the CELLPHONE. Almost everyone owns a cellphone today, thanks to less expensive handsets and low (do the new) tariffs.

I HATE GSM and have always been a CDMA user and enjoyed CDMA service's superior voice clarity. My LG RD3500 model lacked MP3 player & Camera. So I decided to upgrade it with a new handset with the following features:

Good Quality Camera,

Adequate External Memory Space,

MP3 Player with 3.5 mm Jack (for using all earphones),

Good Battery Back Up and

Battery Charging from USB Cable

How To Select A Product :

Before buying ANY product I take the following steps to make sure I buy the BEST product which meets my requirements :

1) Browse Internet to know the possible brands and models that meet my requirements. Select the good models.

2) Read online their Technical Expert Reviews to know technical details of the product and Consumer Opinions to know their features and performance in detail. Expert Reviews help us and Consumer Opinions tell us about the product's durability.

3) Visit outlets to check out their availability and price .

4) Compare & BUY the BEST model.

Why LG CDMA :

I always prefer branded Electronic items and NOT Chinese stuff. I first saw the Samsung SCH-S239 : the latest CDMA handset with bigger screen and Live TV Option.

Samsung makes great mobiles. But, their service is expensive .... last time Samsung Service Center charged more than my SCH-N380 handset's price to replace it's broken motherboard. So, I dropped Samsung.

Earlier, I've used 3 LG CDMA Mobiles (models: RD 3330, RD 3000 and RD 3500). Till date I've NEVER faced a single problem from RD 3330 and RD 3000. I saw LG 6300 in a mobile outlet and the salesman told me this was the CDMA version of LG GM200, the music Dolby mobile.

The set of features in this model was great for the price of Rs 4600. Due to my past experience with LG CDMA, I finalized and bought LG6300.

Accessories: The mobile phone's box piece has the following accessories : Battery Charger, Data CD, User-Manual, Earpiece, 1 GB memory card and USB Data Cable.

Features and Performance :

OPEN MARKET HANDSET : Unlike other handsets, the LG 6300 is an OPEN MARKET CDMA HANDSET . Which means, just like in a GSM Handset, we can use the handset for ANY CDMA Network (Tata Indicom, Reliance or MTS-India). I use Reliance and its RF (call reception) performance is top notch.

Build Quality and Keypad Sensitivity: Looks is an important factor for a Mobile Phone if we wish to flaunt it. Colored in Black and Orange, LG 6300 is no exception: the 6300 doesn't look or feel like a cheap phone. Just like the other LG phones, it's build quality is good enough.

Speaker Sound Quality : This handset is a micro home theater due to it's 2.1 surround channel sound. If you're a person who loves music loud and with that punch to it, then, you should not settle for any other mobile!

The handset has 2 speakers (with tweeters) placed on two sides of the mobile phone.

The additional speaker at its back(check image) acts as a sub-woofer and fires the bass sounds. The 3 speakers reproduce balanced bass and treble sound.

Battery BackUp: With a 1100mAh battery capacity, its claimed talk time is 10 hours. The standby time lasts for 4-6 days for playing music and calls which is good for a CDMA mobile.

However usage of speaker reduces the battery fast. After 100% charging of battery & continuous playing of music battery lasted for 15 hours.

3.5mm Universal Audio Jack : In a normal phone we can listen to the sound ONLY from the earpiece given with the handset. But in this mobile we can use ANY high end headphone (or route its audio to a HiFi System), from its 3.5 mm jack. The Bass is GREAT on my Philips SHP2700 headphones.

Display Quality: The mobile's MENU is well organised with a beautiful THEME at the background. LCD screen's black level is good making dark wallpapers beautiful.

Another good feature is that we can see the icons and text on the screen below direct sunlight clearly unlike the older LG CDMA handsets.

Photo & Video Quality : I tried taking a few snaps of my friends. Although not upto the level of Canon or Nikon cameras, the photos are very clear when seen on a PC Monitor and on my SONY TV from my DVD Player.

So the camera quality is very good from my opinion. Supported resolutions for photos are : 1600x1200, 1280x960, 640x480, 320x240, 220x176. Haven't tried videos yet.

Data Transfer : Just plug in the Data Cable and select the Mass Storage Device option in the handset's menu. Now the phone's internal memory card becomes a Thumb Drive.

So, we can directly transfer MP3 and JPG files to and from the memory card. I have created my own beautiful Wallpapers on mobile screen by pasting JPG files into it.

Other Features :

Airplane Mode (to keep Handset ON but Calls & SMS OFF).

1000 Contacts PhoneBook (with eMail ID, Notes, unique Ringtone, SMS tone and 3 phone numbers per entry).

Bluetooth (...not used yet).

Expandable Memory upto 4 GB

262K Color Large Display.

USB charging from data cable.

Calculators for International inter-City Distance, BMI, EMI and Scientific Calculations.

Stopwatch & Alarm.

World Clock.

Indian Calendar.

Unit Converters (Currency, Length, Temperature etc).

Wireless FM Radio.

Drawbacks :

Though this model is VFM, any CDMA handset is more expensive than GSM handset, since the handset company needs to pay royalty to Qualcomm who patented the CDMA technology.

There is NO option to increase/decrease the contrast or brightness of the display. Funny!

Just like in LCD TVs, the LCD screen's liquid undergoes a bit of suppression when we press the keypad's keys. Why not use the 'knockable' IPS Alpha panels in it's mobile phones when Lava A10 handset has it ???

Value For Money: One cannot find another CDMA phone with the same features in this price range. With all these features in one handset, this is the best VALUE FOR MONEY handset in CDMA family.

VERDICT :

If you're looking for a feature packed CDMA phone at affordable cost, go for LG 6300 . It makes LIFE GREAT(LG)!
