I bought this TV on 3rd week of May 2016 and writing review now after almost all 1.5 months of usage. The TV is just awesome.
I was looking for a TV with almost the latest features, very good sound and picture quality and my obvious choice was Sony LED TVs. But when I start searching more and more information on the net I got a loads of information about LED tv and the various technologies used to make one.
In short I would explain it as below about the main factors considering(LED technology and the Panel used) while buying an LED television.
-> two broad categories in LED technology is Edge LED and Backlight LED. Edge LEDs are the one having LED lights arranged along its borders to light up the back panel. The only two advantage of this technology is it consumes little less energy and make the LED TV look very very slim(since the LEDs are arranged only at the borders)
Where as the Backlight LED is the one where the LED lights are arranged exactly behind the panel. The advantage of this technology is providing a better contrast to the picture quality and also allows the dimming technology to work very efficiently. But yes this technology make the LED TV costlier
-> Dimming Technique - commonly known as Local dimming technology that changes the uniformity of the backlight of an LED screen. The television changes the luminosity of some zones of the screen to better reflect the scene and to create deeper blacks. This makes the pictures with less light or the dark areas of a picture completely dark thereby increasing the quality of the bright images on the same picture. With BackLight LEDs this technology works the best since the LEDs are arranged directly behind the panel. Where as on the other hand the Edge Lit LED having the LEDs only at the border cannot produce much dimming effect.
-> LED Panel - IPS panels display consistent, color accuracy from all viewing angles An IPS panels do not lighten or show tailing when touched. IPS panels offer clear images and stable response time. And it is amazing to know that only LG among other brands like Sony/Samsung etc uses IPS panel in its LED tv.
Based on these factor neither Sony nor Samsung is providing IPS panel along with Backlight LED and dimming technology in their model ranging from 40k to even 90K. atleast I have checked Sony models but its also not having these 3 combinations. Only LG has this combination.
Apart from the above basic LED TV technologies lets talk about some of the feature which making TVs smarter now a days i.e. u have loads of apps and internet connectivity, storage capability, quicker response time and so on and on. But yes yes to have all these work effectively and efficiently you should have a very good operating system in you LED TV, whatever may be the features you receive if you do not have a very robust operating system then you would not be able to enjoy the apps, internet surfing or even games in your tv. I will just make a small compare between the android powered SONY LEDs and the LG WebOS 2.0 TVs. Out of 10 atleast 7-8 people use android powered Smartphones and all of us knows after 1-1.5 years of your usage it starts becoming slow and keep on eating up ur phone memory. Where as the LG WebOS 2.0 is built over a linux platform. Intially this OS was developed by HP and later bought by LG and made more enhancement and made its patent.
apart from these above feature, this tv comes with a magic remote which gives you a mouse like flexibility of surf through various options available in the TV.
To add to the above features this LG tv is ULTRA HD and 4K ready which make this TV a futuristic machine for longer use. Seeing all these reliable feature ad technologies I was happy to reject Sony which was once my first choice and choose LG which I never considered as a choice. Thanks LG for making this TV such a joy to watch.
