After much dithering I finally gave in to my fascination for a large screen lcd tv and brougt home the

LG 42LH50 for Rs.61500/-.Although I already knew that standard definition tv broadcast was not going to look better than on my old 29 inches tv I was slightly disappointed with the picture but the largeness of the screen was really striking.

Soon I learnt how to set the ideal picture controls and now after 2 weeks now I am more than satisfied that I made a good purchase.

I was always looking to buy an lg lcd tv since it was moderately priced when compared to samsung and sony.Another reason wasthe bigger screen size at a lesser price.samsung and sony had a screen size of 40 inches only when compared to LG's 42.The lg certainly looks bigger than a samsung when seen at showrooms because of this size difference.I finally shortlisted the

lg 42lh50 and the lg 42lh70yr.The latter is priced about Rs5000/- higher but as it has got bluetooth.i thought that the bluetooth was not of much use to me and further the LH50 had truemotion 200hz whereas the LH70YR had only 100 hz.Samsung and sony tvs with 100 and 200 hz cost more than Rs70000/= and lg offered these features at a much lesser price. However I found that the 200 hz feature was of not much use as we usally kept it a low level as the picture motion was a little too smooth and not natural. However even the low setting did enough to give a fluid motion and clarity to the picture. There are a number of factory preset settings for picture adjustment which can be further changed by the user.you can adjust even the backlight settings.Overall the picture quality is sharp and crisp an coluorful.maybe it falls short in the black levels department by a small margin. The picture does look a bit greyish when watching from say a 60 degree angle. But most of the time we are sitting straight at home.

The audio as expected is not great but not bad.i found the clear tone setting useful as it enhances voice clarity but if you use this setting the surround sound is disabled. The usb drive can play divx movies with subtitles but I found that that usb drive on my new philips dvd player model 3388 which can upscale the video to 1080p a better option as the video is played thro a hdmi cable connection and naturally the video looks to have more depth..

The usb on the tv can only play standard definition video only and anyway the philips dvd player does a much better job at upsclaling the video to 1080p than the tv.Good quality dvds played thro the hdmi cable looks far better than regular tv broadcasts.I tried playing a hd clip dowloaded from my computer on my dvd players usb drive but it did not play as the resolution was not supported by the dvd player which can only upscales 720 x 576 video to 1080p.Also watching pictures taken even on my cellphones 2mp camera is great especially if the pictures are taken in good light. Overall the tv is giving me a satisfying experience.Watching movies especially channels like hbo and star movies is terrific.probably i'll think of adding surround speakers later.
